🌟 What an incredible experience at the MAASE 2024 Summer Institute! 🌟 We were honored to be a Gold Sponsor of this special event this week, where each August, special education leaders in Michigan come together to grow, learn, and inspire one another. Traverse City was the perfect backdrop for making new professional connections, becoming energized & engaged, and learning about on topics that truly matter in Michigan K-12 schools. AnthroMed Education leaders, Matt Kohler and Nicole Quintavalle, thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with fellow special education administrators and gain deeper insights into the challenges K-12 schools are facing right now. Understanding these challenges is crucial to the work we do at AnthroMed, as we continue to play a vital role in delivering essential in-person Speech Therapy, School Social Work and Mental Health, and Occupational Therapy services in schools. A huge thank you to the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education organizers who worked tirelessly to create this opportunities for connection and collaboration. Your dedication ensures that we continue to make strides in special education, and we’re already looking forward to next year! 👏 #MAASE2024 #SLPs #MichiganSchools #SchoolSocialWork #SpeechLanguagePathology #SpecialEducation #Leadership #GoldSponsor #K12Education #SpeechTherapy #Speechies #MAASE #MichiganSpecialEducation #AnthroMedEdu

Recommended video for those that believe that the sole purpose of Occupational Therapy is to address fine motor delays. Experienced or properly trained occupational therapists are also great at designing sensory diets and sensory rooms to meet the diverse needs of students.
CBS News interviewed Professor of Occupational Therapy Kristie Patten about NYU Library’s new low-sensory rooms for neurodiverse students. The concept for the space was first suggested in 2019 by an Occupational Therapy graduate student. In the interview, Patten expressed the importance of listening to ‘autistic individuals and really understand[ing] what their needs are.” Watch via CBS News affiliate station 5News ⬇️ https://ow.ly/Yffo50Qq9yM

Spring is a time of year that often brings an influx of special education evaluations, which require time for planning, conducting assessments, analyzing results, collaborating with others, documenting the findings, and holding evaluation meetings. Because the influx of evaluations is often not accompanied by a reduction in other responsibilities, a teamwork approach to the evaluations is crucial for meeting the needs of students and completing comprehensive evaluations. I am delighted to announce that I have completed the "Culturally Responsive Counseling in the International School" course with the amazing Cheryl-Ann Weekes and Sue Easton!! This certification has provided me with valuable insights and skills to foster inclusive and supportive educational environments. Here's what I've gained: 🏫 Advocacy and Collaboration: Equipped to advocate for and collaborate on the adoption of school policies that address discrimination and promote a culture of upstanders; ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school climate. 🗣️ Modeling Inclusive Language: Mastering inclusive language to create a more accepting and supportive environment for all students. 🏠 Understanding Family Culture: Recognizing the impact of family culture on student performance and how to tailor support to meet diverse cultural needs. 💡 Recognizing Mental Health Risks: Identifying the various mental health risks faced by marginalized and stigmatized identities, ensuring that we provide targeted support where it's needed most. 🤝 Creating a Safe Environment: Developing strategies to create an environment where students or groups feel comfortable coming forward with their problems, fostering openness and trust. I am eager to leverage these skills to contribute to a more inclusive and culturally responsive educational community. Let's work together to make every human feel valued and supported! #CulturallyResponsiveCounseling #InclusiveEducation #InternationalSchools #MentalHealthAwareness #ProfessionalGrowth #SafeSchools #DiversityAndInclusion #PTC #CTC #InstillYourLife
