As part of the ongoing ICS Seminar Series, we recently had Alana Lentin, Ronit Lentin, and Amani Haydar, joined by Juan Francisco Salazar, to discuss how to advocate for Palestine in academic and cultural settings. Check out the recording of the discussion to hear the speakers discussing Israeli academia's role in Palestinian colonisation, the link between personal and state-sanctioned abuses in feminist spaces, and the silencing of anti-Zionist voices in academia. https://lnkd.in/gHKCJJfP

What an amazing seminar it was🔥🔥🔥🥳🥳As bridge builders, our role is crucial in:- Breaking down barriers and stereotypes: Challenging and dismantling harmful biases and assumptions that divide people.- Celebrating diversity: Embracing and honoring the unique experiences, cultures, and identities that make individuals and communities special.- Promoting inclusivity: Creating spaces and opportunities where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to participate and contribute. By building bridges, we can have a more just, equitable, and harmonious society where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential🔥🔥.
🌼 Today's seminar was all about building bridges and fostering a culture of dialogue and peace. Our objectives were clear: to systematize the skills and challenges in bridge-building, encourage reflection on personal identity and accountability, and inspire through powerful examples of dialogue and mediation. 😍 We were treated to truly inspiring speeches from distinguished speakers such as Mama Shamsa, laureate of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity and Daniel Obst, President and CEO of AFS Intercultural Programmes. David Livingstone Smith, Professor of Philosophy at the University of New England, reminded us that "We must find the resources to combat the lies that perpetrators tell us about humanity". John Volmink, President of the Global Ubuntu Network, also shared his valuable insights. The voice of the youth was strong and clear with heartfelt contributions from Hanan AlDabbas, Syria UUN 2024 Delegate, and Katrina Khan-Roberts, Trinidad and Tobago UUN 2024 Delegate. 🫂 We concluded the seminar with a poignant question: "What is your message of hope to the world?" The responses were inpiring by leaving us all with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism. 💌 Together, we are building bridges and paving the way for a more united and peaceful world.

I appeal to all my LinkedIn followers to watch this video about The Resilience and Challenges of the Jewish People and the Jewish State of Israel 🇮🇱 In today's complex global landscape, the Jewish community and the State of Israel continue to face significant challenges and demonstrate remarkable resilience. This video highlights the multifaceted issues that the Jewish people contend with, from rising anti-Semitism and security threats to the ongoing pursuit of peace and coexistence. Back in 2013, Lord Sacks MHDSRIP eloquently addressed these challenges. As we find ourselves in 2024, it is disheartening to see that the same issues persist. This video serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring struggles and the unwavering spirit of the Jewish community. The horrific events of October 7th, where over 1,200 people were murdered and more than 200 were abducted, with some already confirmed dead, underscore the grave security challenges Israel faces. These tragedies are a stark reminder of the constant vigilance required to protect and defend the Jewish State. Security Concerns: Constant vigilance against threats and ensuring the safety of citizens remains a top priority for Israel. This includes dealing with external threats and internal security challenges. Cultural and Religious Preservation: The Jewish community worldwide works tirelessly to preserve its rich cultural and religious heritage, amidst a backdrop of increasing anti-Semitic incidents. Innovation and Progress: Despite these challenges, Israel stands out as a beacon of innovation, contributing significantly to technology, medicine, and environmental solutions. Diplomatic Efforts: The Jewish State engages in continuous diplomatic efforts to build and maintain peaceful relations with neighboring countries and the international community. As we reflect on Lord Sacks' words from over a decade ago, let's recognize the ongoing resilience of the Jewish people and renew our commitment to supporting and standing in solidarity with them. #JewishCommunity #Israel #Resilience #Security #Innovation #Peace #LordSacks https://lnkd.in/eksgFJHG

At CMHA, we’re committed to Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation. Over the last year we’ve engaged in challenging conversations across our Federation to understand and acknowledge CMHA’s history and our role in colonization. We’re learning together while listening to Indigenous voices—experiences, perspectives, and knowledge—as we continue our journey toward reconciliation. The outcome of this effort will be the creation of an action plan to guide the important work of true reconciliation, and we look forward to sharing more about this as we progress. https://lnkd.in/gSRxspYU

We urge each and everyone to take action University of Birmingham is hosting an IDF soldier to speak at an event! 1. Read the post here: https://lnkd.in/eFPxb69D 2. Send an email to express your concerns to: vc@bham.ac.uk student-complaints@contacts.bham.ac.uk enquiries@guild.bham.ac.uk president@guild.bham.ac.uk Example template: Subject: Concern Regarding Subject: Concern Regarding Hosting of IDF Soldier at University Event To whom it concerns, I am writing to express my concern regarding your decision to host an IDF soldier as a speaker at an upcoming event. As a British university, your institution holds a significant responsibility in fostering critical thinking, academic integrity, and inclusive dialogue. Offering a platform to a representative of a foreign military—especially one involved in ongoing genocide—raises serious concerns about the potential for biased narratives and the spread of propaganda. It is crucial that universities maintain a balanced and ethical approach when hosting speakers, ensuring that all voices are heard responsibly. By allowing this event to proceed, it appears that the university may be endorsing a one-sided perspective, without proper consideration for the sensitive nature of the issues at hand, whilst a Law school event last year, which had watermelons in the advertisement, was cancelled due to not being 'inclusive' enough. I urge you to reconsider the implications of this decision and ensure that any future events uphold the principles of fairness, impartiality, and respect for all involved. Sincerely, [Your Name] THIS IS OUR DUTY. FOR NOW AND THE FUTURE. Much love, www.sistersproject.co.uk 💞
