The media circus around the racist and Islamophobic attacks and rioting last week has moved on. The news and politicians are focused on the steady flow of people being charged who are now facing prison time. Yet we, and many Black and Brown people, are still feeling rightly anxious. A handful of people may be going to prison, but many are not, and people in our communities who hold the same racist and Islamophobic views may now feel emboldened. The far right are still there, behind the scenes. In our media violence against Black and Brown people, Muslims and people seeking asylum has been normalised for decades. All it takes is one person. There is still a high risk of attacks. White privilege means that you’re able to move on from this as if it’s now over and dealt with. Going about your daily business not having to worry about someone noticing your Black skin, your hijab, your accent. Singling you out. Our free monthly Living Whilst Black sessions, run in collaboration with Mind, Body & Soul have been a great source of support as we’ve lived through this moment. We spend the first hour healing and tending the wounds with Rowan Carr our anti-racist embodiment coach. We then move on to some Conscious Witnessing where an individual may want to share something with the group. The support isn’t to respond and start a dialogue. Conscious Witnessing is simply letting the person share and the rest of us then silently holding the space for them. It’s incredibly powerful. The last half hour is a time for us to just be our Black authentic selves. No tone policing, no code switching. Pure Black Joy and Love. The sessions are run on the 10th of every month and are open to anyone who is politically Black. Political Blackness is an umbrella term used to refer to all the people who are likely to experience racial discrimination based on skin colour. Living Whilst Black can be heavy, but it’s been especially heavy in the last few weeks 🖤 Read more and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/edp9mgbu

We have the capacity to resolve challenges peacefully. Humans have many valuable capabilities because we can think critically, leading to behaviours/decisions/actions.
I won’t be silent. I am furious and disgusted. The violent racist attacks that have taken place over the last week are abhorrent. I am from one of the places that has witnessed attacks (Hartlepool). The people responsible for the attacks do not represent Hartlepool or indeed the views of a world that I want any part of. To my Black and minoritised friends and colleagues: I am sorry that we live in a world where this is happening; I know it is only part of the problem of systemic racism. I won’t just commit words to a post. That’s the easy bit. I will continue to take action to tackle and eradicate systemic racism in every form. Judge me on my actions rather than my words. I’ll judge others in the same way.

TW: Racial slurs, racism, historical racism, abuse / sexual violence and difficult content. If you follow lots of anti-racist accounts, you may be aware of the on-going, controversial, debate around the criminal investigations into Marieha Hussein and Kehinde Andrews over their use of the terms ‘coconut’ and ‘house n*gro’ Marieha was charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, after she used an image of coconuts next to the faces of Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman on a protest placard at a march in November 2023 calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. She attended court on the 13th September, heavily pregnant and due to give birth at any time. Much to the relief and celebration of her young family and the anti-racist community, she was rightly acquitted. Sadly this was overshadowed by news that acclaimed Black academic Dr Kehinde Andrews, the UK's first professor of Black studies, is under criminal investigation. Why? Because he posted a video on the 23rd June in which he called right-wing GB news commentator, Calvin Robinson a ‘house n*gro’ and argued that ‘coconut’, ‘house n*gro’, ‘co*n’ and ‘uncle Tom’ are “vital expressions of Black political thought that should be celebrated and not policed”. We’ve been taking some time to think about these terms, how they’re used and why what happened to Marieha and is now happening to Kehinde is not ok. We’ve uploaded an article which teases it out and we invite you all to sit down and read it. It includes an in-depth exploration of the term ‘coconut’, why Black and Brown people have a right to use these terms whilst white people don’t (yes, we’ve gone there), and a deep-dive on the difference between ‘being racist’ and ‘upholding racism’. This was a difficult article to write, and we acknowledge that many people will find this triggering. However this does not mean that we should not engage with this topic. We encourage you to read, breathe and reflect. The aim of this article, like all our content, is to increase understanding of the complexities of racism and to support you in critical thinking. Great. WE WILL lead the counter-protest in support of Bill to make DEI DIE once and for all and get rid of all unconstitutional, affirmative action experiment huge and massive failures just like Sharpton and his ilk. Sharpton is so irrelevant today it is not worth more than a sentence. What does anger me is that Bill did the right thing exposing frauds like Harvard's and others, and now this unconstitutional affirmative action experiment failure, who is irrelevant tries to violate Bill's civil rights. NYPD: SHUT DOWN THIS PROTEST NOW PLEASE
BREAKING: Prominent African American activist, Reverend Al Sharpton just announced that he will lead the National Action Network picket outside the Manhattan office of Jewish investor Bill Ackman over "his assault on DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion") He wrote, "Protest comes in wake of targeted, relentless campaign against former Harvard University President Claudine Gay." Ackman, who is Jewish and married to an Israeli, is the CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, a hedge fund management company. NOTE: Outrage is mounting in the black community, after what they perceive as an unfair attack against Gay following her stand that pro-Palestinian or anti-Israeli protests are protected by the First Amendment in the United States of America. Her testimony in Congress led to calls for her to be fired over alleged failure to take a stand against anti-semitism. These calls were followed by accusations of plagiarism and her eventual resignation.

Share in the comments what are your thoughts? I’s our turn to do better. Racism isn’t just individual acts of hatred it’s a system of oppression created upstream of us. If we don't speak up, if we don't play our part in dismantling the system, if we don't consciously uncouple and get divorced from the arranged marriage we were born into. But to live your life, to go through your life being aware of that and not play your part in dismantling it at the micro level, interrupting racist jokes, perhaps, or the macro level, changing government policy, is to not play our part on our watch. This is all black people are asking us to do. So can we stop defining racism as individual acts of hatred and see it as a system that we are all part of and we need to play our part in dismantling it? #speakup #paulscanlon #wecandobetter #useyourvoice #wecandobetter #racismawareness #racialequality #racialinjustice #racismneedstostop #racismisnotok #fyp #paulscanlon

People: the word WOKE… Refrain from using it in a derogatory manner. Don’t joke about someone being woke, you can probably learn something from them. Be proud when you are Woke. If you aren’t woke yet, try to become more Woke, Learn and ask from a curious viewpoint. Don’t assume that a Black, Disabled or Trans person needs to put in the mental labour to educate you: choose to educate yourself. There isn’t enough wokeness in the world just yet, join the momentum and keep striving for justice, keep supporting oppressed people, those who need protection, they need allies. Don’t be afraid to acknowledge your privilege; instead, use it to other people’s advantage, as a true ally. #EDINotOverYet. #WokeProud

Mark Rodney CEO @ Project lifeline CIC Anti Youth Violence Campaigner Youth Mentoring, Leadership Peer Mentor Serious Youth Violence Specialist Gang exit specialist Provider of Conflict Resolution Consultancy
The violent acts unfolding in our streets today should paint a vivid picture in the minds of every young Black youth involved in the destruction of your own race. You are the destructive weapon that those who oppress us use to weaken and destroy your community. It is time to break this cycle of violence that not only takes lives but also fuels the laughter of our true adversaries. Project Lifeline pushes for peace among our youth, recognizing that our older generation needs your unity to stand for our very existence. Our future relies on you. As we look around, we can see that our common enemy—systemic oppression—is attacking people of color without barriers. This reality should bring us together, as it affects us all. Racism is an act of cowardice that thrives on the plague of division infecting our communities, including the tragic reality of Black-on-Black violence. The tragedy unfolding before our eyes is not new; it has been a common sight in the past. We, as the older generation, challenged these issues to pave the way for you to walk the streets today. Now, it is your turn to stand up and be counted, paving the way for the future generation as we did for you. Fighting fire with fire is not the answer; this only reflects similar destructive tendencies. Just as water overcomes even the biggest fires, our united presence sends an energetic message of what could be rather than what is. With a common enemy, we can find strength in our unity to overcome the weak actions of thuggery and cowardice. You, as the younger generation, must acknowledge this reality and embrace various ways to represent your thoughts and actions. It’s time to embody unity, representing a force that will echo the voices of your peers. We will not accept or be controlled by fear. Let us channel our anger into action and stand together for a safer, more united future. Together, we can create change that uplifts all people of Colour rather than tear them apart. This is a time for your voices to be heard and your arms to extend. #pushingpeace #unity

2024 -- Year of Truth Melanin-deficient individuals will be confronted with their bias, racism, sexism, ableism, misogynoir, and anti-Blackness Melanated people are done being patient, done with 'giving it time' The time is now, and we need to start talking about the anti-Black rhetoric in this world. We need to have conversations about reparations and what that means. To me, I don't want to pay any taxes, federal, state, local, sales, property etc. why? my ancestors have already paid these fees in blood, sweat, tears, and enslavement. Reparations are necessary for communal healing, and true restorative justice and healing. Race-baiters like Julia Hartley-Brewer need to be called out for their racism and anti-Blackness. Shame these people and let the world finely bear witness to what Melanated communities have been shouting for centuries. Enough is enough, stop putting Melanin-deficient comfort over Melanated safety and comfort. We need to progress, and either we do this together or you leave us alone and let us do our own communal healing without your racism and bigotry.

Please don't judge me for my thoughts when it comes to America and its political issues.. But I have to say this out loud so people don't make a mistake about what's happening here. Joe is dropping out and Endorsing Kamala.. My response to this is 2 part... First off this is an attempt to persuade the minority vote again because of her ethnicity and her gender. This government will use every tactic they can to try and keep this country down. Kamala is not for the minority and it was brought to light through her vice president debate. She held black prisoners who were innocent for the benefit of their slave labor while being held illegally for crimes that they did not commit. People I ask that we look past the illusion that this United States Government is for us the people. They have been known for centuries to steal, kill and destroy what does not fit into their narrative. Everything about America today is fake with the exception of the people who are wide awake to the games people play when they are on the brink of losing everything they built off those 3 principles I mentioned earlier. My second factor which is really really really important is... Was she not also on the Weinstein list? And aren't there photos of her compromising her own dignity to be where she is? How can we trust a lady who has shown on many occasions she is willing to sell her soul for the right price. We need to stop looking for others to solve the problems we all have the solution to which is UNITY if we really do it together. We don't need people to run a country that they couldn't run without us the people paying their fake corporations like the IRS and the DOJ just to name a few. We don't need 1 person to make the judgement for what's best for us , it's us seeing what they already are and have been putting us through and that is the spread of hate and the injustice acts they take upon us daily. They are afraid to see what the American people can do when we come together because like I said before. We are brother and sister strong. We are not separated by color, religion, nationality or even spirit. We are all of one and if you don't believe me tell me what color you bleed and I'm sure it's the same as mine and any living mammals here on earth. We are a nation under GOD and until we really understand what that is and means we will continue to fail under a society of corruption. 🎤 drop..... Love is love and I love my nation... Kamala should be jailed along with every other person on that child trafficking list.... Don't be fooled by propaganda or tricks. She's been turning tricks herself for sometime now, but don't be the pawn to their strategy of misguidance and the fact that miseducation is the way they have been winning all along. And I ask everyone to go back and take a look at her debate and you will see the devil in her eyes when she gets called out for the things I have mentioned. Don't judge me for caring about our tomorrow. You all matter to me everyday. 🙏🏾
