🌟 Meet our hackathon winners pt.4 🌟 What advice do they have for other data scientists and what motivated them to dive into responsible data science? We interviewed them to find out. Adarsh is pursuing B. Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and is fascinated by the various domains of data science and the application of AI for societal betterment. He’s won the notebook prize at the Harvard OpenDP hackathon where he approached the problem from clever angles, broke the project into logical easy-to-follow sections, and showcased his creativity and statistical intuition. 🙌🏽 🔍 Motivation “The Harvard Open DP Challenge seemed like an amazing opportunity to learn a new key skill of Differential Privacy, which, obviously, has many real world applications. This was a great opportunity to enhance my skills and explore a new domain.” 🤓 Approach “I focused my approach around trying various methods to extract information from seemingly uninformative and noisy fields. Trying various arbitrary things like, say, taking the first 6 digits of the phone number, which made the previously noisy and useless phone number field just a bit more useful.” 🔑 Advice “As an up-and-coming data scientist myself, all I can say is just put yourself out there, just try to learn as much as you can, and participate in as many things as you can. Embrace this journey of continuous learning and trust the process.” You can check out his solution here: https://lnkd.in/dUVEkUZb Want to get started with Eyes Off Data Science? 🌟 Meet our hackathon winners pt.5 🌟 What advice do they have for other data scientists and what motivated them to dive into responsible data science? We interviewed them to find out. Vansh Panwar is a Btech student at IIT Guwahati. He’s won the notebook prize at the Harvard OpenDP hackathon where he showcased various indexing & blocking methods in an organised way. 🔍 Motivation “When learning ML and its models, Differential Privacy seemed a crucial addition to my knowledge base, given its numerous applications, such as finance, transport, healthcare, and so on. Antigranular’s Private Python contest presented itself as the right opportunity to learn about DP and take the next step in data analysis.” 🤓 Approach “Starting off by identifying which data fields would be the most relevant and have the greatest impact on the linking, I set out to thoroughly clean the fields to gain such that the subsequent steps in my approach go smoothly. Comparison of the indexed database required a thorough knowledge of the various comparison rules, which ensured optimization of the final links.” 🔑 Advice “At times data analysis feels similar to hunting hidden patterns in nature; be it the golden ratio and Fibonacci sequence in the spirals of the world and the proportions of even humans. The euphoria in the ‘aha’ moment when you discover a pattern in nature, or a relation between multiple fields of data is an important feeling to remember when learning. 🔺 Getting it right with projects ! Most data science projects are aimed at helping you to find more meaning to learning just data science resources. From finding a project to completing it can be very daunting and almost impossible to finishing up. As part of my KaggleX BIPOC mentorship program, I decided to make a documentation of my project which was keen on "Building a machine learning model to predict the presence or absence of Chronic kidney disease in observed patients". This approximately a 3min read of the article which is available on Medium
