Landlocked #Tajikistan recently featured prominently in two key reports—one highlighting its stellar #growth and another naming it as one of the least #democratic countries in the world. Be it the development of new, high-rise apartment blocks, or the proliferation of premium coffee shops, tea houses and restaurants, a short stroll around the centre of Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe suggests a city —and a country— on the up. Indeed, one of few countries in the region to stay in the black during the Covid-19 pandemic (growth was 4.4% in 2020), Tajikistan—on paper at least—has since been #Europe and #CentralAsia’s champion of #economicgrowth: 9.3% in 2021, 8% in 2022, 8.3% in 2023. It is also—except for basket case Turkmenistan—the least free country. https://hubs.la/Q02tRs4X0

East Africa Railway and Motorway Network Expands! Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo have recently participated in the SGR gauge railway corridors infrastructure projects in East Africa. In co-operation with Uganda and Kenya, these countries are actively seeking funding to develop their trade networks, especially through the port of Mombasa. Kenya already has an extensive SGR network of more than 600 km and has pledged to start construction of the Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba line by December 2024. Uganda has committed to complete the current contract by 31 May 2025. This expansion of the SGR network is a very important step towards further integration and increased efficiency of freight transport in East Africa. Kenya secured additional financing from China Eximbank for the extension of the SGR railway network to Uganda. Everstrong Capital, a US-based infrastructure asset management company, announced on Thursday 23 May 2024 that it has signed a $3.6 billion deal with the Kenya National Highway Authority (KNHA) to build a motorway linking Kenya's two largest cities. #Sarenolia #Colonialism #ConstructionPolicies #GlobalConstructionPolicies #VedatÖzkan #Africa #AfricanUnion #Strategy #Trade #Sociology #Antropology
