Yesterday Lithuanian 🇱🇹 energy minister Dainius Kreivys presented the vision for #hydrogen development. “Lithuania should produce enough hydrogen to meet its needs in 2050, and will export surplus energy products to other countries using huge amounts of local green electricity. In Lithuania, 24 TWh of hydrogen could be consumed, and the power of the installed #electrolysers would reach 8.5 GW. They could consume 36 TWh of electricity – three times more than today's total demand. 2050 Lithuania's hydrogen infrastructure should be well connected to neighboring countries, which will provide opportunities for both export and import of hydrogen and use the hydrogen #storage infrastructure available in other countries.” #renewableenergy #H2 #EnergySmart #IgnitisRenewables

💡 Today's Eesti Päevaleht has thoroughly analyzed how prepared we are in Estonia for the transition to renewable energy and what are the different scenarios. Sunly is working towards covering as wide a spectrum as possible from energy production to ensuring consumption. Among other things, we see that in Estonia, we need to consider the electrification of existing heating sources. Peeter Raudsik, Sunly's Head of Regulatory Affairs, believes that the current price of district heating will decrease for consumers in the future through electrification and help reduce the sector's carbon emissions. "Using heat pumps, in turn, reduces heat losses related to district heating, which in older grids can be up to 30%," Raudsik adds. Read more (in Estonian) ⬇

Step by step to carbon neutral economy. I hold my fingers crossed to witness the success of European Energy - Lietuva in this break through project for the whole region.

💡 Some great insights on sustainable energy and green reform by Yoko Alender: - Estonia's energy sector is the largest emitter and holds significant potential for green reform, aligning economic and environmental goals. - Political ambition is crucial in shaping the energy future, with experts guiding the path while politicians set the ambition level. - Transitioning to renewable energy not only secures the environment but also fosters economic growth and job creation. - The Risti solar park, to be built by Sunly and Metsagrupp, is a great example of how local communities can benefit from renewable energy. The landowner receives rental income from low-value agricultural land, and locals receive extremely cheap electricity at 5 cents per kWh. - One way the Parliament can support the transition to renewable energy is by adopting drafts of legislation that support renewable energy production capacity. ⬇ Read more (in Estonian):

🌱 The latest data published by Elering shows that last year, for the first time, more electricity was produced from renewable energy sources in Estonia than from fossil fuels. 💚 However, this seemingly positive news is overshadowed by the fact that electricity imports last year were more than 3.5 times higher than the year before, accounting for 43% of electricity consumption. The last time Estonia was able to export electricity was in 2018. The question we need to address is whether Estonia will meet its green energy targets with local or imported green energy? Mihkel Loorits, Our CEO sheared his thoughts on the ERR News. Read more at the link below. ⬇️☀️ #renewableenergy #solarpower #cleanerfuture

"The price of electricity in Estonia is becoming the most expensive in the region. In that case, we should worry about whether today's consumption level will be maintained, and larger “Consumers, they simply cannot bear this price.”😕 Hando Sutter, head of the Employers' Confederation, is critical of the Climate Ministry's impact analysis, which predicts lower electricity prices and increased consumption. Sutter said on Vikerraadio's "Reporter's Hour" that a plan is needed on how to make the price of electricity for large consumers competitive with neighboring countries. According to Sutter, who previously headed Eesti Energia, it is not only the absolute cost of the inputs that is important, but also what the price is compared to competing markets to which Estonia's goods will be exported. "Unfortunately, today we already have a pretty bad picture here. If you look at the plans, whether it is the development of the energy portfolio with political preferences or synchronization with Central Europe, the situation becomes significantly worse," Sutter said. Employers are being asked about calculations by the Climate Ministry, which conclude that renewable energy subsidies will bring the exchange price of electricity from 9.08 cents in 2023 to 6.6 cents by 2035. Taking into account the final price of electricity, which includes all taxes, renewables and the network fee, the price of electricity will fall from 17.9 cents in 2023 to 15.4 cents in 2035. Sutter said there was no impact analysis. "We need to understand for a moment how the electricity market works. I continue to believe that the electricity market is working well and that the electricity market is like a mirror - there is no point in blaming the mirror if you don't like what you see in the mirror," he said. The employers' leader noted that in the Nordic countries we often see cheaper electricity, which means that there is not enough electricity coming from connections to the Baltic countries. Sutter noted that neither the Estonian nor the Baltic electricity market can be viewed in isolation from the Nordic countries, and their energy strategy should be based on what is happening in the rest of the region. According to Sutter, according to price level forecasts for 2035, electricity will be a third more expensive than in Finland and even more expensive than in Sweden. The plan, he said, could be how to achieve a competitive price, which means comparisons within the region.
