Submit your IAC 2025 Special Session proposal by 7 February! 🛸 The theme “Sustainable Space : Resilient Earth” will set the tone for the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025 Sydney) to be held on 29 September-3 October 2025 in Australia. The purpose of Special Sessions is to stimulate a forum for focused discussion on new and innovative topics. Of particular interest are proposals that address the congress theme and multidisciplinary research or topics different from traditional space-related topics. Session formats are flexible and can include fishbowls, campfires, Orca Bowl challenges, design sprints, workshops etc. Sessions should run for 70 minutes. 7 February 2025 is the final deadline to submit papers for the 2025 IAC - by Frederic Eger - The 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025) is set to take place in Sydney from 29 September to 3rd October, with the theme "Sustainable Space: Resilient Earth". This event offers an opportunity to engage in innovative discussions that bridge space exploration and sustainability. Special Sessions are a chance to create a dynamic platform for focused dialogue on cutting-edge topics, with a focus on multidisciplinary research that breaks away from traditional space discussions. Session formats can take many forms, such as collaborative fishbowls, campfire chats, Orca Bowl challenges, or hands-on design sprints and workshops. The submission deadline is 7 February 2025 (23:59 CET). A helpful document has been prepared to assist in crafting a compelling proposal that stands out to the IPC Steering Group. The deadline is 7 February 2025, and participants are encouraged to submit their proposals to be part of a transformative conversation at IAC 2025.

The History symposium covers the entire spectrum of space history, at least 25 years old. History of space science, technology & development, rocketry, human spacefl ight and personal memoirs are included. This year a special focus is laid upon historical developments in Australia and Oceania.

IAF EARTH OBSERVATION SYMPOSIUM (B1) 75th International Astronautical Congress I am very pleased to share the good news that my paper titled “Major Challenges and Opportunities to Accelerate Space-Based Earth Observation Activities; A Case Study of Türkiye” has been accepted for presentation at the 75th International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy, on 14-18 October 2024. This paper provides a broad overview of Turkey's efforts to enhance its capabilities in space-based Earth Observation activities between 1996 and 2023. It highlights the country's significant achievements, successful projects, collaborative endeavors, challenges faced, and milestones reached in advancing its space capabilities. The study also assesses the progress made in the first decade and outlines the key steps taken to modernize the Earth Observation capacity infrastructure. This innovative approach to capacity-building in space for developing economies has paved the way for the establishment of a space agency in Türkiye. Go Estonia! 🇪🇪 Today I came across the KuupKulgur at Winter Satellite Workshop. KuupKulgur is an exciting lunar rover project conceptualized at Tartu Observatory, University of Tartu. The rover is created with the aim for agile technology demonstration. Also the KuupKulgur is a student project (such as #Aalto1 was for Aalto University), that aims to support and motivate future space engineers in Estonia. In my opinion the Aalto satellite program has been very consequential to the evolution of the Finnish space industry scene. I am sure the folks at ICEYE can concur. I sincerely hope to see some version of this rover on Lunar surface one day 🌝

Space mission briefing 1 Team: Espaço^3 Mission/project: TejoOne --- Objective: TejoOne aims to demonstrate the feasibility of detecting space debris smaller than 10 cm using a 1U CubeSat in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The mission seeks to pave the way for identifying and cataloguing numerous and hazardous small debris that currently remain undetected. --- Mission plan: Espaço ao Cubo is participating in the CubeSat Portugal contest, organised by the Portuguese Space Agency (Agência Espacial Portuguesa), which will facilitate a launch at the end of 2026 for the selected project. TejoOne is designed to be launched into a 525 km orbit to detect space debris smaller than 10 cm using an adapted star tracker. The images of the debris will be pre-processed onboard and transmitted to Earth for further analysis. --- About the team: The "Espaço ao Cubo" team comprises 40 university students from Lisbon with diverse backgrounds, including various engineering disciplines, physics, design, and management. Important milestone for the SPACE aisbl an its founding members SME4SPACE, ASD-Eurospace, Association of European Space Research Establishments (ESRE), #EASTRO,and EASN - European Aeronautics Science Network On September 10, 2024, the European Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding with #SPACEaisbl to increase the involvement of the private sector in the programming of #Horizon #Europe as of 2025. Under the co-programmed European Partnership for Globally Competitive Space Systems (“Space Partnership”), €100 million of #EU-funding will be allocated to the topics proposed by the private sector in the domains of 🛰️Satellite communication,🌍 Earth observation and 🚀New space transportation systems. The private partners are expected to contribute an additional €120 million through in-kind support.   SME4SPACE is thrilled to contribute to the success of the space partnership by supporting the space #SME community to identify key research priorities and to increase their competitiveness. Palma becomes the epicentre of space innovation with the "4S Symposium" on small satellites by European Space Agency - ESA   Jointly organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French Centre National d’Études Spatiales (CNES), the Symposium on Small Satellite Systems and Services, also known as the "4S Symposium," is being held at the Palma Congress Center from May 27 to May 31. The event is attracting over 600 participants representing major institutions and companies in the aerospace field. Numerous delegates from national space agencies, including NASA and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), will be in attendance. The event will also feature a hardware exhibit with 65 companies showcasing their latest advancements. A hallmark of the symposium is the extensive networking opportunities, which foster the exchange of innovative ideas that will drive future advanced space programs. This year’s theme is Space Transformation. Key new technologies and applications, such as Earth observation, telecommunication, and navigation, will be presented and discussed. A special session will be dedicated to small satellite access to space, addressing topics such as launchers, in-orbit transfer vehicles, and platform cross-compatibility, with some satellites being as small as a milk carton.
