What is TAPS? Twin anemia polycythemia sequence is a rare disease affecting just 3-5% of twins sharing a placenta. It is recorded in both higher-order multiples and occasionally dichorionic twins. While historic cases of anemia and polycythemia exist in literature, it wasn’t until the early 2000’s that this disease would eventually be separated from TTTS, and given a name. TAPS is characterised by small connections in the placenta, less than 1mm thick.
