We had a particularly interesting session at our Career Week today, featuring a panel discussion with junior software developers Benjamin from Fronius International, Dario from Raiffeisen Bank International AG, and Oliver from Doka, a company of the Umdasch Group AG They shared insights into their careers and day-to-day experiences in software development. Their practical advice and personal stories provided our students with a clearer understanding of what to expect in their future careers. 🌟 How to Show Empathy at Work: A Real-World Case Study with Sunway University Interns 🌟 In partnership with Mr. Stanley, Founder of 恩缘老人之家 En Yuan Old Folk Home Kebajikan Orang Orang Tua Bahagia Selangor, and under the guidance of the PwD Smart FarmAbility program, we’re excited to have eight final-year Software Engineering students from Sunway University join us! Using the P5 Sustainability Framework developed by Green Project Management Global USA, these interns are gaining hands-on experience while bringing empathy into action as they interact with elderly residents. Mr. Stanley provided a thoughtful briefing and tour, highlighting how the PWD Smart FarmAbility program has brought therapeutic, nature-positive practices to the home. This initiative not only helps residents reconnect with nature but also supports local procurement of fresh, plant-based and fish-based protein, promoting sustainable living. The project-based curriculum here exemplifies how food and health can be decentralized within the community. Here’s how we’re embracing empathy through this collaboration: ✨ Ask "How can we support you?" and listen to the unique needs of residents ✨ Create an open, “no stupid questions” culture for everyone ✨ Celebrate each contribution, offering constructive feedback ✨ Treat every individual—interns, residents, and staff—as valued members of the community ✨ Encourage mental well-being and genuine connections ✨ Take time for meaningful, non-task-related conversations ✨ Adapt to the residents’ needs, promoting a flexible, supportive environment This project is a testament to the power of empathy, connection, and sustainable practices, shaping a future where food systems, health, and community thrive together. 🌱🌍 #EmpathyInAction #SunwayUniversity #PWDsmartFarmAbility #P5Sustainability #SupportingOurElders #DecentralizedFoodSystems #SustainableLiving #EmpathyMatters

I spent most of my time at NEUBERG SUPRATECH REFERENCE LABORATORIES as an IBTP trainee (sponsored by GSBTM, DST, GoG ) and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I am amazed at the extent of knowledge I have acquired in just two weeks and am excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I’d like to share a few key takeaways for those passionate about laboratory work: - Observation is Crucial: There’s immense value in keenly observing experienced professionals. Pay attention to how they handle instruments, measure, troubleshoot issues, and prepare for experiments or protocols, etc. These observations can provide invaluable insights. - Ask Questions: Never hesitate to ask questions, no matter how basic they may seem because in the world of science, every inquiry has the potential to spark new insights. - Cultivate Curiosity: Stay inquisitive and engage deeply with the 'why,' 'how,' and 'what' of your work. This mindset fosters a deeper understanding and promotes continuous learning. In essence, careful observation and sustained curiosity can lead to new questions, which in turn generate new answers and deepens knowledge. I believe this approach is essential for effective learning and growth within the field. I’d love to hear from others who work in laboratories — what insights or strategies have you found valuable in your laboratory work? Please feel free to share your experiences and tips in the comments! ….. 🌿Delighted to announce that GREENROOFS® Innovated by ANCV, partner in the Green Roofs project, has concluded the green roof internships for Erasmus+ students in Portugal🌿 On 13 September 2024, the experience of 20 Erasmus+ students in Portugal who participated in the voluntary internships organised by the National Association of Green Roofs (ANCV) with the aim of developing and applying practical knowledge on nature-based solutions, in particular green roofs, came to an end. During the internship period, which ran from 29 July to 13 September, the students engaged in a number of enriching activities. The most significant were: City tour: Identification of streets that need trees to mitigate the urban heat island effect (CCV - Bragança, Lipor, CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum). Workshop preparation: Organisation of a free public workshop on green roofs (CCV - Bragança). Workshop for the technical staff of the host organisations (Lipor, CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum). Technical visits: Technical visits to companies and institutions hosting interns (Lipor, CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum). Project development: Development of projects for the implementation of green roofs on existing buildings (CCV - Bragança, Lipor, CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum). Matrix of indicators: Creation of a matrix of indicators to monitor and evaluate environmental solutions; (Lipor) Studies on thermal insulation solutions; (CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum) Final report: At the end of the placement, each student prepared an individual report describing their experiences, activities, challenges faced and what they enjoyed most about the placement. (Lipor, CMIA - Fibran - Imperalum) This internship was an enriching experience for both the students and the institutions involved, contributing to the training of qualified professionals in sustainable practices. The organisations that contributed to this training were the Centre for Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation of Vila do Conde (CMIA Vila do Conde), Centro Bragança Ciência Viva (CCVB), LIPOR - Association of Municipalities for Sustainable Waste Management of the Greater Port, Iberfibran - Extruded Polystyrene SA and Imperalum. Each of these institutions played a key role in hosting and guiding the students during the practical activities. #ErasmusPlus #greenroof #highereducation #trainingprogram
