Today is World Contraception Day — a day to reflect on the importance of reproductive health and access. In the 2024 legislative session, we achieved a huge victory for Idahoans with the passage of SB 1234. After years of persistence, we now have a law that requires insurance companies to cover 6 months of contraceptives at a time. This may seem like a small change, but it has big impacts, especially in our rural state where easy access to a pharmacy isn't a given. By ensuring consistent access to birth control, we’re helping people take control of their own bodies — whether that means deciding when and if to have children, pursuing career or education goals, or simply having peace of mind. This legislation encourages healthier pregnancies and ultimately benefits everyone, even saving money in Idaho's state government. We have so much more work to do, but today, we reflect back and celebrate this win.
