Early in my career, a wise leader (Brian Barnes) said something in a meeting that really stuck with me. He said, "We are not laying bricks, we are building a cathedral." At first, I didn't fully grasp what he meant. But after some time, it started to make sense.
This idea comes from a story about three workers. The first one just sees himself doing a basic job to earn money. The second one knows he's building the walls of a church. But the third one believes he's helping build a cathedral, showing how seeing the bigger picture can change how we feel about our work.
I learned from this that having a purpose or a big goal in mind makes our daily work more meaningful. It's like knowing every small task is part of a bigger dream. This thought has inspired me throughout my career, reminding me that even the small things we do are important.
I wanted to share this story to encourage others to think about the big dreams they're working towards in their jobs. Remember, it's not just about the tasks we do every day; it's about the big goals they help us reach. We're all building our own 'cathedrals' in some way, and that's something truly special.
