Sales manager at Neware | Battery testing solution provider | Passion for battery and battery testing
The U.S. company QuantumScape has recently reached an important milestone, which was now confirmed by PowerCo: its solid-state cell has significantly exceeded the requirements in the A-sample test and successfully completed more than 1,000 charging cycles. For an electric car with a WLTP range of 500-600 kilometres, this corresponds to a total mileage of more than half a million kilometres. At the same time, the cell barely aged and still had 95 percent of its capacity (or discharge energy retention) at the end of the test. The tests, which ran for several months, were carried out in PowerCo’s battery laboratories in Salzgitter. In the standardized test procedures for newly developed battery cells, robustness is considered the most important criterion. The industry-standard targets for this development phase are 700 charging cycles and a maximum capacity loss of 20 percent. QuantumScape’s solid-state cell significantly exceeded these specifications in the latest test. The cell was also able to meet the requirements for other test criteria such as fast-charging capability, safety and self-discharge. #QuantumScape #solidstatebattery #SSBs #cyclelife #PowerCo #EV #capacity #energy #cycle #fastcharging #batterysafety #selfdischarge #batterytechnology https://lnkd.in/ggMXP_9K

What is the right technology choice for high power pulse applications with charge-discharge events lasting between 15 seconds and 15 minutes? Supercapacitors still lack the energy density in order to be used in applications where energy is needed longer than for 30 to 60 seconds Lithium Ion batteries are technically a poor choice for charge-discharge events under 10 minutes due to self-heating and the attributed effects on lifetime. This is commonly solved by simply oversizing the battery Sebastian Pohlmann from Skeleton Technologies presented in Feb 2022 at TechBlick, explaining how they are filling this performance gap by integrating supercapacitors with Li-ion batteries as well as by developing a high power battery technology. To learn more about the latest advances in battery technologies, including novel materials and devices, solid state devices and beyond Li-ion chemistries, join us and hundreds of others at TechBlick online conference on 14-15 Feb 2024 online.
