Rachel Skirvin says you need three things to be a pilot: “time, money, and passion.” The 2024 AOPA Foundation scholarship awards are helping aspiring aviators tick one of these boxes. https://bit.ly/3YDtoB1 #flywithaopa #aviation #avgeek #scholarships #student

Dear Aviators (and non aviators this time) , you are privileged. The fact that you have access to this platform right now, the fact that you are reading my words right now proves that you AND I are privileged. We are privileged. It baffles me to see that many people , especially on this platform, either forget or completely disregard the whole concept of privilege. You accepting that fact that, you and I are privileged, doesn’t take away or alter the amount of hard work most of us had to undergo in order to get to where we are now. It does not take away the amount of pain we endured along the way, nor the losses and sacrifices we had to make in our own individual journeys. We might be less privileged than some, more privileged than others but again, we are privileged. What makes you think that there isn’t other people out there who don’t have the same drive, passion, skills and demeanour to achieve what you have achieved (and probably more) if only they had access to better educational systems, if they came from more politically stable countries , if they had stronger passports perhaps etc etc… I’m a scholarship student since my primary education, I was able to excel academically enough to maintain my scholarship status then later get awarded an aviation scholarship that I would have never afforded to study. I also finished engineering school with excellence , and here I am today saying that despite that, I am well aware of my privilege. Do you remember how you felt when you achieved your dreams? Now take that feeling and multiply it by 100. This is how you would also feel if you helped others reach their dreams. I guess what I’m trying to say is, use your privilege for a good cause. Be realistic before you start throwing off irrational advises to those who need more than just a pep talk. Sometimes I hear comments being said to other people that give off the same vibes as “Just get a job”. When In reality, to get a job , you need multiple other things to be considered and fulfilled prior to that. And sometimes only you and I ( other privileged people too) can lend a helping hand. #aviation #motivation #privilege

Aerospace Design Engineer | CAD & PDM Expert | Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) | Unique Problem-Solving Approaches
🚨 A Remarkable Display of Skill and Calm Under Pressure Recently, at my hometown’s training airfield, a single-engine training aircraft, the Diamond DA-40NG (RA-02641), faced an unexpected challenge. During a routine touch-and-go maneuver, the aircraft lost its nose wheel. What happened next was a true demonstration of the pilot's skill and composure. For over two hours, the aircraft circled the area, burning off fuel to ensure a safe landing. With only the instructor and the cadet on board, they were faced with the daunting task of landing without a front wheel. Thanks to their thorough training and calm decision-making, they managed to bring the aircraft down safely against all odds. ✈️ Have you ever experienced or witnessed anything like this? #Aviation Aviation Insights

Aviation is a small world indeed! ✈️ Back in July 2001, Andrew conducted a Final Progress Check on an RAF Cadet Paul as he completed his Flying Scholarship. Fast-forward to a few months ago, he had the pleasure of inducting that same person into an Instructing Team at Yorkshire Aviation Academy. And just recently, he flew a Boeing 737-300 to Ibiza with none other than the same man! "It’s been fun to fly with Paul again after all these years and is proof, that aviation really is a small world!" #AviationLife #AviationIndustry

Kip Lau's supremely well written piece on Flight Research International's Upset course in AIN should be read by every working aviator. Those of use who are civilian trained never experienced any of this and thus are potential victims should we end up inverted or worse. In a perfect world this kind of training would be added to the FAA ATP experience in FAR 61.156 though, in a practical sense cost and limited availability are practical obstacles. Still, a wonderfully informative read.
