Delta Air Lines Pilot Who Threatened To Shoot Fellow Pilot Calls It Misunderstanding A feature of modern-day pilot training is crew resource management, which is all about the flight crew working as a harmonious team for the safety of all onboard. Threatening to shoot a fellow pilot while in flight does not happen often, but when it does, the law and aviation authorities come down hard on the perpetrator, who has put hundreds of lives at risk with such a reckless action. Flight Mechanics/Lead Flight Test Engineer/Certification Consultant, Flight Analyst, Performance&Flying Qualities
This revision to Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) 73: Removes low-gravity maneuvers during flight training to align it with limitations established by subsequent Airworthiness Directives. Revises the SFAR terminology to mirror the FAA Helicopter Flying Handbook, Airman Certification Standards and Practical Test Standards. Removes legacy dates and updates the applicability section to include ground and flight training, including flight reviews provided by authorized flight instructors. Clarifies training endorsements and flight-review requirements for less-experienced pilots.
The FAA has revised a special regulation for Robinson R-22 and R-44 helicopters to make it consistent with other FAA requirements, training and standards. The update affects owners, operators and flight schools using these aircraft. Read more at https://lnkd.in/giXBJeky.

🚨 Safety alert for Boeing 737 NG and MAX! 🚨 The NTSB has issued urgent recommendations to Boeing and the FAA after discovering possible failures in the rudder control system of these airplanes 🛫. The problem is due to faulty actuators from Collins Aerospace, which could jam the rudder at critical times, such as landing ⚠️. This defect was detected following a February incident with a United Airlines 737 MAX, in which the rudder jammed during landing 😬. Although there were no injuries, it was revealed that moisture in the actuators can freeze and limit their operation in low temperatures ❄️. The NTSB is asking to review safety procedures and evaluate whether these actuators should be replaced 🔧. What are your thoughts on this challenge for Boeing and aviation safety? Should operators replace these actuators as soon as possible? 💭👇 #formaero #Aviation #AviationSafety #Boeing #FAA #NTSB

Highly interesting read by the UK AAIB - especially the following paragraph: „It is well known that humans are poor at detecting acceleration rates and recognising that their takeoff run is not matching the calculated performance. Performance issues can be insidious and invisible to the crew until very late in the takeoff roll. A previous report from the AAIB covered the reasons for this in detail1. However, it is very unlikely that any crew will recognise there is an issue until they approach the end of the runway, and few crews then select an increase in power to try and mitigate their performance issues.“ Maybe this scenario should find it‘s way into #simulator training! #investigation #training #safetymanagement

The National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) two-day investigative hearing into the Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 door plug blowout on January 5, 2024, began on August 6, 2024. While by no means the conclusion of the NTSB’s investigation into the accident, the hearing does represent a seminal moment in one of aviation’s most challenging events of recent times. On August 5, 2024, the NTSB provided more details about the witnesses that will appear which include executives and representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued an urgent safety recommendation to Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following an incident at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in February 2024, when the rudder pedals jammed on a United Airlines 737 MAX 8. The aircraft potentially affected include certain Boeing 737NGs and 737 MAXs equipped with a Collins Aerospace SVO-730 rudder rollout guidance actuator that tests found to be defected. Vertical Aviation International praises the FAA for issuing a final rule for the qualifications, training, and operational requirements for pilots and instructors flying powered-lift aircraft, which introduces a new category of aircraft. This rule is the first completely new category of civil aircraft since helicopters were introduced in the 1940s and is a key step toward Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations (including air taxis and cargo delivery) becoming a reality in the US National Airspace System in the near future.
