The Bandhwari dumpsite on the Gurgaon-Faridabad highway has become a prominent issue in Delhi NCR, often making headlines due to various mishaps. Once a scenic road to drive on weekends through the Aravali forests, the highway is now marred by continuous waste and plastic bags scattered along the roadside due to the frequent movement of overfilled garbage trucks. Not a single patch of road is free from waste, with plastic bags lying up to 20 meters deep into the eco-sensitive zone. This daily, horrific view for commuters between Faridabad and Gurgaon has become a disgrace to the ecosystem of the India's oldest mountain range, the Aravalis. The Bandhwari dumpsite's impact on this eco-sensitive zone is a glaring reminder of systemic failures in waste management that need urgent attention. #ngt #cpcb #hspcb #wastemanagement #government #plasticwaste #constructionwaste #savearavali #sustainability #moefcc

Just Bengaluru Things: Fines For Washing Vehicles With Drinking Water . #JustBengaluruThings The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is cracking down on wasteful water usage! A new rule imposes a hefty fine of ₹5,000 for anyone caught washing their vehicles with drinking water. This strict measure comes as Bengaluru grapples with a looming water crisis. The city, despite its tech-hub status, is facing water scarcity, especially during the approaching summer months. By curbing the use of potable water for car washing, the BWSSB aims to promote responsible water consumption. Looking for alternatives? Consider using recycled water or borewell water for car washes. Water conservation is a collective effort, and every drop counts! #BengaluruWaterCrisis #SaveWater #BWSSB

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan lekin Aswachh Mumbai: The Poor Waste Management in Mumbai. 🚯 🚯 ♻ As we all know Mumbai is known to be the city of dreams 📽 , starting from its high-rise housing complexes 🌆 to its exotic restaurants. But underneath all of that, Mumbai is dealing with a massive problem of solid waste management. The city performs poorly in terms of proper, sanitary disposal of human and kitchen waste. This is what I see whenever I take a local train from Suburbs of Nallasopara to Churchgate: overflowing trash cans and a disorganized drainage system. ☑ Swachh Bharat Mission: A government-led initiative to build a clean India movement. ☑ Waste management issues in Mumbai: Despite the mission, Mumbai faces challenges in proper waste disposal as there is Improper Segregation of Dry and Wet Waste. ☑ Observations during train rides: Overflowing trash cans and disorganized drainage systems. ☑ Lack of awareness: People don't know how to dispose of different types of waste correctly. ☑ Reasons for the problem: Overpopulation, poor awareness, and ignorance, including the author's own guilt. ☑ Massive waste generation: Mumbai deals with a significant amount of waste on a daily basis. So, what's the solution? 💡 How can the city's trash disposal systems be more efficient? How can we ensure that every piece of garbage is appropriately handled and disposed of? In this sort of question, we should ask ourselves how we, as individuals, can contribute towards making this city a better place to live. As Mahatma Gandhi's words say, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”. It is like a pledge and responsibility that we all should take before questioning the authority about their duties because “boond boond se Sagar Banta hain." #swachhbharatmission #swachhsurvekshan2023 #cleanindia

While metropolitan landfill issues often make headlines - such as the fires at Mumbai's Deonar dump or the collapse at the Ghazipur dumpsite - legacy waste problems in small towns remain largely overlooked. These smaller town dumpsites, often located on the outskirts, don’t receive the same level of attention as their metropolitan counterparts. Though India has made progress by remediating 35% of the country’s legacy waste, most of this success has been in larger cities, leaving small towns struggling to catch up. Coming from a small town myself, I’ve always felt that WASH service delivery could improve, such as daily waste collection or the missing linkage of UGD connections. However, I never had the opportunity to fully understand the municipal struggles of these small towns. But since working with these municipalities, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the challenges they face. With these insights at BORDA, we’ve written a blog to explore the deeper issues of small towns' legacy waste management. Want to know why small towns face such challenges with legacy waste? Recent findings from a joint project by the Delhi Government and IIT-Kanpur found that 'Vehicular Emissions' accounted for about 38% of Delhi's air pollution. Carpooling is an effective way to reduce these vehicular emissions, due to the reduction in fuel consumption. Using a shared vehicle reduces carbon emissions. Its a simple way to contribute to a greener, cleaner world. #Karit #pollution #carpooling #environment #carpool #airpollution

𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝 Kasturba Nagar, Chennai, are composting their own wet waste instead of throwing it away! This innovative project, inspired by a similar one in Bengaluru, has resulted in a 30 kg reduction in daily waste production, three cross streets house commercial establishments. Of the 2,500 homes, nearly 1,500 do 100% source segregation of waste. I'm particularly impressed by the 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡, with residents taking ownership of their waste management. the project's success highlights the potential of decentralized composting solutions to address waste management challenges in urban areas. It's a model that could be replicated in other communities around the world, promoting sustainability and community engagement. The initiative is funded by The Circulate Initiative and Resilient Cities Network. What are your thoughts on this innovative approach to waste management? #sustainability #circulareconomy #communitydriven
