Her insights into the instability of genes and their location on chromosomes still hasn‘t been digested by the community. There isn‘t a single human genome. We each have a unique set including millions of mutations, deletions, rearrangements and duplications. These are the dominant source of human variation which far surpass any acretion of novel mutations during our lifetime, e.g. from cosmic radiation, fall-out or mechanical stress. The increase of defect genes in sperm of older men is, however, statistically significant. Still: avoid UV in sunlight and use UV-blockers! (melanoma)

NEW video out now 🎥 https://lnkd.in/e2AJqsmR A reminder to take time to celebrate your own wins! It’s easy to “get distracted” by all the tasks and focus on what needs to be done to achieve the “big goal” (like the MSc or the PhD) 👉 and then feel down because you are not there yet… Last week, I got a reminder that it is important to zoom out and take a helicopter view (TM Dr Lara McClure) ☺️ By doing that, I was able to see how much I actually did in the last 9 months (for the Annual Progress Review) and indeed for the whole year, because of getting this scholarship, starting the PhD, and all the publications in 2024… Looking ahead, these videos will become a gentle reminder for “future Sandro” - to make sure I keep looking at the full picture and…take time to celebrate my own wins! 😉
Make time to look back and celebrate your achievements! 👈 Lesson from my PhD journey 🎓 (after APR)
