Yesterday, marked my 8th work anniversary at AXA XL I started as an analyst with lots of dreams and aspirations, but I never knew that I would stay that long. The culture, inclusivity, diversity, and flexibility are what makes AXA XL different. Throughout my journey, I have come across different individuals who taught me to work as a team, mentors who guided me to see things differently and the challenges, that made me stronger. There were many ups and downs where I felt like giving up, but my determination, dedication, and zeal never allowed that and kept me going. Currently, as team manager, I am immersed in practicing leadership which I believe is a lifestyle and I am very passionate about it, evolving in emotional intelligence to guide and support my teammates, creating safe and positive environment by nurturing the growth and development of my team. Looking ahead, my goals include fostering a growth mindset, completing my PMP certification, and continuing my leadership journey with dedication. A special mention goes to my husband, Arvind Kumar who is more of a mentor and friend to me. A big part of my successful journey is dedicated to him. I have never felt so accomplished in my life. As we close out AAPI Heritage month today and our celebrations of the rich tapestry of these cultures, it's a great moment to reflect on how my own journey informs my approach to leading authentically with impact and creating solutions for the families we serve. As many do, I began my career as a “know it all” full of youthful arrogance (pic attached as proof!). I thought I had all the answers — the insurance business is fairly simple after all (ha!) My naive and narrow view was disrupted in 2008 when I temporarily moved to our Annuity business – a job I was supposed to only have for six months as a "maternity leave replacement." For the next 10 years I maneuvered around that business working under different managers, each with their unique approaches. While the subject matter knowledge I gained was great, the real value was the opportunity to observe the leadership styles of others. It took some evolution to embrace who I am, but today I believe my role is to provide the right strategic context so those with the subject matter expertise can thrive and execute. I help create air cover so they have clear runways. I ask (a lot of) questions to spur debate and dialogue. And most importantly, I work to create space where perspectives are heard and teams thrive. Because when our team is thriving, our clients benefit. We integrate diverse perspectives not just to check a box, but to genuinely craft solutions that serve everyone effectively. This approach has led to innovations that are as varied and valuable as the individuals we aim to serve. So, here’s to the continuous blending of cultures and experiences, making our leadership richer and our products more inclusive. How does your heritage shape your professional outlook? In 2023 I celebrated my 30th anniversary at Generali. Summarizing 30 years at Generali is no easy task, but it is exciting. For those who don't know me personally, I'll start by sharing something key to understanding this story: I am an agronomist and I entered the world of insurance somewhat unexpectedly. I’m passionate about agronomy and farming. I spent the early part of my professional life pursuing a career in this line. But when Spain joined the common market, I thought it wise to rethink my future. And that's how I joined Generali. At that time, the insurance sector was perceived as a ‘safe harbor’ for many who, like me, were seeking a change. It was very common to 'end up here', as people used to say. In fact, I remember an agent at a conference in Mexico, few years into my career at Generali, asking me a question that seemed revealing: 'What is the path of failure that leads one to insurance?' And that question somehow predicted a cultural shift in the sector. One that has led companies like Generali to be, 30 years later, among the best-valued companies to work for in countries like Spain, and that has caught the attention of top universities, who often contact us to create bonds that benefit their students. The insurance sector has changed a lot over these years, and it has always done so with a purpose in mind: to be one of the most people-oriented sectors that exist. For a simple reason: insurance companies walk alongside people through their everyday challenges. And that can only be properly done if we have the best talent, the best people. This cultural transformation we have experienced, that of attracting the best talent to be able to offer the best service, has been the driving force behind our aspiration to be a Lifetime partner to our customers. And that's how I see Generali, as a Lifetime partner that has allowed me to grow as a professional while I have been able to develop as a person surrounded by the best people.  Thanks to everyone with whom I have had the fortune to share these 30 years.
