Safety Alert: Strengthening ELD Requirements The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a crucial recommendation to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to tighten electronic logging device (ELD) requirements. This comes after a tragic crash on I-64 in Virginia in December 2022, where truck driver fatigue led to a collision with a medium-sized bus, resulting in three fatalities. The 20-month investigation revealed that the trucking company involved had instructed drivers to manipulate ELD logs to exceed federal drive-time limits. To prevent such incidents, the NTSB recommends that FMCSA revise ELD requirements to include: Date Driver login time and who logged them in Names of anyone who edited the log Driver’s license numbers Active driver list changes These measures aim to enhance transparency and accountability, ensuring safer roads for everyone. However, We will see how the FMCSA responds as this will ruffle the feathers of many. #SafetyFirst #Transportation #ELD #NTSB #FMCSA #RoadSafety
