Mental health is just as important as physical health. In fact, mental and physical health are closely connected. Poor mental health can negatively impact physical health, and vice versa. It is important for people to prioritize their mental health and seek help if they are struggling. There are many resources available for people who need support for their mental health, including therapy, support groups, and medication. It is also important for society to destigmatize mental illness and create an environment where it is safe for people to seek help for their mental health. As a society, we have come a long way in our understanding of mental health and the importance of prioritizing our mental well-being. However, there is still a long way to go in terms of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues and providing access to resources and support. During this mental health awareness month, I encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with themselves and their loved ones. Mental health affects us all, and it is important that we create a safe space for open dialogue and support. Let's continue to raise awareness and advocate for the mental health resources and support we need. No one should feel alone in their struggles, and it is okay to ask for help. Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Let's prioritize our well-being and work towards a world where mental health is treated with the same importance and urgency as physical health. #MentalHealthAwareness #kbr

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month! Let's continue to raise awareness about the unique challenges that affect the mental health of people of color. Mental health includes our social, psychological, and emotional wellness. It can impact how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. People of color experience numerous mental health disparities including higher rates of attempted suicide in adolescents and lower treatment rates for mental disorders like depression in adults. #minoritymentalhealthawarenessmonth #minoritymentalhealth #anxiety #depression #emotionalwellness #wellness #POC #mentalhealthcare #mentalhealthadvocate #stress #healthdisparities #treatment #mentaldisorders #nashville #nashvilletn #nashvillementalhealth

Why is internalised ableism important to talk about when we are discussing mental health? Here’s to hoping my story can help others understand what this may look like : For me - it took a long time to accept that the reason I struggled to talk about my diagnosis’ was to do with worrying that my friends, my family and my colleagues would think that I am less capable, more sensitive and someone who couldn’t ‘handle’ difficult situations. That I was less able to do things and that I would be judged for things I couldn’t control. For me - it took 8 years to realise that the level of anxiety that I was experiencing, which in many ways was completely debilitating- wasn’t ’normal’ and not something I had to live with on that level if I decided to talk and get the help I needed. For me - it took a long time to stop performing as this version of myself that didn’t ring true to how I felt in my head. To accept that it was okay to live with these differences. And whilst I have had to navigate how to manage my emotions through both my personal and professional life - I have also learnt that these differences , and ways that my brain functions is part of what makes me great at what I do. It’s part of who I am and I am really proud of what I have overcome as a result. Don’t get me wrong, there are days when I wish I was wired differently but accepting this is a part of my identity has allowed me to engage is crucial conversation around Mental Health Stigma and how to feel comfortable with the uncomfortable. All this to say, that I hope if you or someone that you know is navigating through a difficult time or a new diagnosis that can feel scary and lonely - reach out, check in on each other, there are amazing resources all around us that have helped my journey. But most importantly- TALK. #worldmentalhealthday24 Mind Samaritans YoungMinds Movember
It’s World Mental Health Day. Remember: Mental health can be extremely disabling for many people. Internalised ableism needs to be part of the mental health conversation. Mental health resources need to be accessible. Mental health, like Disability, does not discriminate. #ThursdayThoughts #WorldMentalHealthDay #UnlearningAbleism #DisabilityInclusion
