The mental health needs of Asian American young people are very specific and very, very important and often overlooked. Education in general is it's just so crucial the the right teacher at the right time and the wrong teacher at the wrong time can be the difference between a person's life diverging and two completely different ways. And so anything that celebrates the teacher and that that celebrates the student like Apex for youth does is really important to me, recurring themes that I encounter. In my interaction with Asian American students are peer pressure a kind of parental pressure, a pressure about their futures. And I wish for them to be able to share these things, to have functional, conversational relationships with their parents, to understand that the American dream for those of us who are the children or the grandchildren of immigrants, is a very broad treasure chest of opportunities. To me, self-care is doing the things that I want, whatever that is. I like to eat good food. I was raised on Cantonese. Food in San Francisco and my mom and dad both were great cooks and my brother is an incredible cook and it's a nice way of connecting to myself and my family and my background. I'm a fiber artist. I like to knit and make things, and that is extremely meditative to me. Physical comforts like spa treatments and stuff. My advice for anyone who's young and struggling is there is always somebody out there. If you reach out, find someone who understands what you're going through, who can mirror and listen to you and to can help you find the answers that you need. You do not have to do anything by yourself. They're a search engine away from you.
