Double Major in Public Policy and Leadership + Global Development Studies at the University of Virginia | Pre-Law
I presented at the Global Futures: A Global Studies Symposium in April. My project is titled, "Re-imagining UVA’s food: Street Vending and Spatial Justice” where I argue that street food and street vending is a democratic political project that city dwellers enact out of survival. Street vendors create an autonomous and self managed initiative that is often creative, and delicious, beneficial for both the vendor and the city. I analyze common perceptions and arguments against street vendors, arguments which are often racialized and anti-poor. My research question was, “who exactly is targeted by neutral facing laws around public space, and when/how does the police enforce these laws?” After researching Virginia Law and Charlottesville Ordinances I found that street vending is criminalized and highly regulated. Neutral facing laws create systems of oppression towards street vendors. The laws also create and perpetuate hierarchies, racism, and violence. I expanded my research, public speaking skills while presenting to professors and fellow students.

The situation at Red Lobster serves as a cautionary tale for institutions in higher education as they strategize on recruiting students. Universities that fail to recognize shifts in the student landscape and adjust their branding and recruitment strategies accordingly will struggle or, worse close. #HigherEducation #StudentRecruitment #BrandPositioning
The demise of Red Lobster is a perfect case study in how to kill a business

Black and Brown folks literally can't afford to be "ethical" in the United States.. I can't afford cruelty-free food and clothes. I can't afford environmentally friendly products and cleaning supplies. I can't afford organic. (seems like this may be by design in many Black and Brown neighborhoods) And some of us can't speak our minds on the issues of the day, because it means our jobs and we have to feed ourselves and or others. All these things are prohibitively expensive for working class/low income folks Or we work in public education where it's become so hyper political we have be neutral on everything or we are accused of having an "agenda" or spreading a critical theory that's only taught at the university level and that our "first amendment rights are somewhat diminished" when it comes to social media "Just on the South Side, closings include a Whole Foods, two Targets and three Walmarts. The closures have created a food desert for some Chicagoans. That's an area where one third of the people live at least 0.5 miles from the nearest grocery store. Parts of West Englewood, Austin and South Shore are examples." https://lnkd.in/gUK4DmSe

Veterans Liaison/Aliya Health Group/Solving homelessness & addiction: one intrinsically valuable veteran at a time” 🇺🇸
The humble drive-thru, a staple of modern convenience that has become an integral part of our daily lives. But have you ever wondered where this phenomenon began? The answer lies in the unlikeliest of places: a McDonald's restaurant in Sierra Vista, Arizona, opened in 1975 to serve the soldiers at Fort Huachuca Army Base. At the time, the restaurant was struggling to attract customers due to a military rule that required soldiers to stay in their vehicles while wearing their uniforms off-base. Enter Dave Rich, the ingenious operator who solved this problem by cutting a hole in the wall and installing a window and intercom. And just like that, the drive-thru was born. Fast forward to today, and it's hard to imagine a world without drive-thrus. From coffee to burgers, pharmacies to banks, it seems like every business wants to get in on the action. And why not? The drive-thru represents the perfect blend of convenience, speed, and laziness that we've all come to love. But the drive-thru's impact goes beyond just saving us a few extra minutes in our busy lives. It's a symbol of innovation, of problem-solving, and of the American spirit. Who would have thought that a simple hole in the wall would become a game-changer for the entire fast food industry? So the next time you find yourself cruising through the drive-thru, remember the soldiers at Fort Huachuca Army Base who inspired it all. And as you collect your food and drive away, ponder this: the drive-thru may have started as a hole in the wall, but it's become a hole in our hearts - a convenience we can't live without, and a reminder that even the smallest ideas can have a big impact. As the great philosopher, Ronald McDonald, once said, "You can't buy happiness, but you can buy a Big Mac, and that's kind of the same thing."

I'd love for someone, if they have the time, to talk me down off the ledge as to why this use of surge pricing is NOT third degree price discrimination. I mean, the value of the goods sold doesn't change on a temporal basis. By what means, save for Wendy's bottom line, does this benefit the market? Clearly Wendy's has the capacity to clear the market during busy times, so I don't think there are supply constraints (my own waist line lends support of this), so what gives? Wendy's reps, I'd love to hear from you. #wendys #surgepricing #pricediscrimination #marketing #pricingstrategy #pricingoptimization
