Recently enrolled for Forage JP Morgan investment banking virtual internship. Do visit forage they provide various free virtual work experiences from top companies which will be a great add on. Was a bit nervous and excited but as I took on the first task it was quite easy, might be because it was just a start 😅. SCENARIO: Worldwide Brewing co., largest manufacturer and supplier of beer, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages in the US. CEO is looking for opportunities to expand its market across the world, reason being limited domestic expansion. He has identified Asia as a key opportunity as the rising middleclass demand for premium beverages. TASK 1: Creating an email template consisting of major targets for mergers and acquisitions. I tend to avoid writing about previous work experience and internships here on LinkedIn as I am always struck by how forced and contrived they appear - as though I am on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and my audience needs to keep up with my every movement. However, my internship with Perbak Capital Partners was, quite frankly, one of the best experiences (not work-experiences or any other kind but just experiences) that I have had that I almost feel obliged to share. Perbak, for those who do not know, is a hedge fund based in London who deploy a market-neutral trading strategy and it comprises some phenomenal humans - both on a professional and a personal level. Given my theoretical physics background, I thought it most apt to dive into the world of quantitative finance and my fellow quants were nothing but helpful in explaining the financial system as it is, the roles and functions of quants, resources with which I can educate myself, what it means to have a diligent work ethic in an office space and so much more. I walked into Perbak with little more financial knowledge than of a couple of speedily read books and ill-advised trades on T212 while having deluded myself to be an omniscient force in the world of finance. I leave Perbak humbled, albeit vastly more knowledgable of the industry while recognising just how much I have yet to learn. All that to say, I am indebted to the people at Perbak for giving so much to me by way knowledge learned, skills acquired and mentors gained. This may not be the most conventional work-experience post but it is what I have and, again, thanks to Perbak for giving me the opportunity to learn so many valuable things which will no doubt be used in my future career ventures.
