Healthcare organizations are required to follow all cleaning requirements listed in manufacturers instructions for use (MIFU) for medical equipment. Besides organizational policies, MIFUs is one of the most requested documents during clinical regulatory surveys. Have a process in place to ensure your organization can follow these cleaning requirements. Tip- if it touches a patient & is reusable, it will have specific cleaning requirements. If the MIFU is not clear, always reach out to the vendor. Request clarification in writing from the vendor & this can be provided during a survey. If the vendor cannot give clarity, this podcast has a great tip on next steps.
