🌟 DIVERSIFYING CLINICAL TRIALS: MY JOURNEY & PASSION 🌟
🔍 Ever wondered why clinical trial diversity matters? Let me share my story. 🔍
In my 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of novel medicines. Yet, there remains a glaring disparity: the lack of diversity in patients being treated in clinical trials. Whether it is disparity due to socioeconomic status, language and cultural barriers, this inequity struck a chord with me, propelling me to take action. As an example, this recent AACR article on 'Boosting Diversity in Clinical Trials' clearly depicts the disparity in cancer care.
As a seasoned healthcare professional who has served as both a Study Director and Medical lead on studies, my experiences illuminated the critical need for representation from diverse communities. I've seen the untapped potential and the profound impact it can have on patient outcomes.
But it wasn't just professional insights that drove me—it was personal conviction. As the Pan-Asian Voices Lead during my time at BMS, I facilitated crucial conversations on allyship and inclusion, and I've led initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers to inclusion. Currently, serving as the Community Group Director at a local church, I witnessed firsthand the power of diversity in people who share the same vision and how each unique individual must play their part to best serve their community. These experiences deepened my resolve to address systemic gaps and champion diversity in healthcare and research.
I've been honored for my commitment, nominated for the PAN Impact Award for Inclusive and Accountable Leadership at BMS. Yet, accolades aside, my true reward lies in the opportunity to make a difference.
In the next chapter of my career, I am looking to play a critical role in reshaping the future of healthcare and ensuring that clinical trials more accurately reflects the diversity in our community. Let's turn challenges into opportunities and pave the way for a healthier, more inclusive tomorrow.
