When my father came back from the United States and set up a healthcare system and got us all working with him for the patients, it was never about gender. It was work which needed to be done, a true commitment to make a difference in people's lives. Today, the four of us are really anguished about what has happened. It makes my heart bleed and makes my blood boil. Women have to be respected. And the fact that something like this happened to a woman. To a fellow Dr. to a healthcare professional who ceaselessly just served the public, I think is is something which is truly devastating personally to us and to the nation as large. And it's not the first time it's happened before it's happened again. What do we all doing about it? Let us all do something to see that India is safe, women are respected and everyone of teacher caliber comes together to just make our country safe and respected. It is not just an assault on one of us, it is an assault on every woman in the healthcare system, on our right to feel safe, valued and respected in the workplace. I see anger around me, the pain, the anguish. It is now time to be constructive and create protocols to protect our woman colleagues, recognizing that they are human beings that nurture our society. Workplace safety for women is paramount and non negotiable at Apollo Hospitals. The harsh reality is that there every day that there's so many crimes against women, each one is, is a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife. I think this is the time that we all should double down and those of us have to take responsibility, reinforce our workplaces, make sure that that we make a working not just pleasant, but it has to be safe for people. And I think this is something we have to stress on. Let us rekindle. That flame of hope, respect of trust and more than anything else that flame of pure love that India needs at this time. Today I am deeply pained by the passing away of a lady doctor in Kolkata. It is time that we internalize and we think of who we are as human beings and understand that human kindness and caring is core to not just institutions, but to life itself. We need to move forward and responsibly take measures to protect our women. Again, understanding that we are not doing this just to create jobs, just to protect diversity and women. But more than anything else, recognizing the contribution that they bring to society. From urban hospitals to rural clinics and pharmacies are fight is the same. We need to create a culture where women medical professionals are. Protected, empowered and respected everywhere. We are the lifeblood of our communities. We will not be silent. We will raise our voices for every woman who has been threatened, harassed or attacked. We will help create safer work environments, stronger laws, and justice for every sister who has suffered for us across the Apollo ecosystem. What is paramount is the safety and the care that each one of our healthcare professionals must get. And we will do our. Up close to ensure that let each one of us stand up in an appropriate manner and ensure that we are safe and we are better. It is important for us to think holistically, to think about behaviors, to think about processes to ensure safety and to bring this all together with a firm commitment to create a safer environment. We will do so because we care.

It’s indeed a transformative force that unlocks the potential of individuals, families, and societies. When women are empowered, they gain the ability to make choices, pursue education, and contribute meaningfully to their communities leading to economic growth, social stability, and improved health outcomes which lies in its ripple effect to transform societies by tapping into the strength, resilience, and creativity of half the population. It's a powerful force for equality, justice, and progress.
In the aftermath of the Kolkata rape case, I find myself grappling with the unsettling truth that the fear of ‘it could have been me’ is a constant presence in my life—and in the lives of so many women across India. This fear isn’t something we simply acquire; it’s embedded in us from the moment we’re born. Despite years of conversations and efforts, I’ve realized we’ve yet to find a way to break free from this mindset, to live without the constant dread that our safety is always at risk.
But as I think about it more deeply, I recognize that it’s not just about us as women—it’s also about understanding who these perpetrators are. What twisted rationale and history shape their mindset, making them believe it’s acceptable to abuse another human being? Too often, I see that what’s presented as comfort and protection for women is merely a façade, masking the harsh reality that we don’t have real autonomy over our own lives and bodies. Do we genuinely have a say when it comes to our consent, or is it an illusion we’ve been taught to accept as freedom?
This reality is hard to swallow—knowing we live under the shadow of violence, perpetuated by deeply flawed mindsets and systemic failures. I’m not sure if we, as women in India, even have the right to ask again: isn’t it time we confront this head-on, challenging not just the violence, but the mindset that sustains it? This isn’t just about safety; it’s about reclaiming our right to live freely and without fear.🙏 🇮🇳
