Don’t just go ahead and start blaming your media buyers for a poor performance.
Ask these questions yourself first:
- Is your product page optimised?
- Is the pdp content persuasive enough to make them read more?
- Have you tested multiple offers? (Most IMP)
- Are you providing creatives with a proper strategy to them or are they just some random creatives?
Start with this first, media buyers who are just managing your ad account, there role is to have a campaign structure which is stable, and scalable. If you think they can just run some magic and you’re gonna get some amazing results - sometimes you while, sometimes you won’t.
What I want from my media buyer?
Ask “Why” as much as possible.
The more questions, the more curiosity to find answers and the more ways you’ll develop to test it out and the better you become at media buying.

I've dealt with and still deal with this, and I was even tasked with hiring such "talent" at a salary that honestly does not feel right.
Clients also think managing their social media platforms is easy. They can do it, so why should they pay someone else to do it?
Quite honestly, if the clients can do it... why would they even consider hiring someone else? If you are hiring, it means somewhere down the line, as a client, you weren't doing it...
You are not hiring someone who just pushes a button to send out a post; you are hiring a strategic thinker, a person who has to use a multitude of tools you can't even start imagining how much time it takes to master or the cost of simply using them. You are hiring a copywriter, editor, and person who trains you and your staff to get better photos and videos that match your audience. You are hiring YEARS of experience and learnings, so you, as a client, spend more time creating the best products possible while your social media manager makes sure the whole world knows about how awesome you are.
Knowing all this, is a social media manager worth more than an entry-level job?

Social Media Consultant, Strategist Speaker, and Founder of Saturn 9 Media--I say things louder for the people in back.
"But the Gymshark social media manager role is a great opportunity for a recent grad to get hands on experience with the CEO of a major company!"
No...being asked to do the work of a WHOLE MARKETING DEPARTMENT and more is not a "great opportunity."
It's exploitative.
But I don't think that's the Gymshark CEO's intention.
It's much more likely that he has sadly fallen for the same misconception that so many others have that a social media manager's job is to do EVERYTHING.
And sadly for many, that's what it's become.
And that's why it's so important that the social media manager community continue to push back when we see job postings like the Gymshark one.
Because if we don't, not only will social media manager job descriptions contain an unreasonable amount of duties--they will continue to grow.
