#Spotlight on Kylie Braunius, MassDOT Transportation Program Planner III, who will be one of the presenters at an upcoming Innovation Webinar Series on April 25 at 2:00 pm, Artificial Intelligence Framework for Crosswalk Detection Across Massachusetts https://lnkd.in/gY6Hv5Qd “I began my career as a Transportation Program Planner II in 2022 and have since progressed to the role of TPP III, specifically as a GIS Data Analyst. In this position, my primary responsibility is to conduct spatial analyses on various datasets to support our engineers in developing actionable safety improvement plans for our roads. Additionally, I create and publish maps for different stakeholders to access information, ensure the quality of our data, and contribute to the presentation of new research ideas aimed at enhancing our datasets and safety planning. I also have the opportunity to train and supervise interns in geocoding crash data, as well as collaborate with researchers and other groups at MassDOT on projects such as AI crosswalk detection and wildlife collision hotspot modeling. One individual who has greatly influenced my academic and professional journey is my best friend, Christina. From the very beginning, she understood my aspirations and encouraged me to pursue them, even when others deemed them impractical. Christina's brilliance, eagerness to learn, and ability to engage in discussions about problem-solving, goals, promotions, and life achievements have been a constant source of inspiration for me. I take great pride in overcoming personal obstacles and successfully completing my master's degree at Cornell, a dream I had since high school. I strongly believe in the importance of asking questions and seizing learning opportunities. Whether it's requesting guidance on a new process, volunteering to assist with unfamiliar tasks, or simply being open to acquiring new skills, these actions contribute significantly to personal and professional growth in the long run. I am thrilled and honored to be part of a team of accomplished women in the engineering field. Working alongside supervisors who recognize my value as a contributor and provide guidance and mentorship has made me feel empowered and included within MassDOT. Fun fact about me: I’m a part of the board of a nonprofit focused on sustainable farming and local food systems in New England! #Safety #Crosswalks #Wildlife #Engineer #EarthMonth #Sustainability #MassDOT

Domino resignations? Fight or flight!✨ As I reflect back on the many challenges and achievements of the past year. There is one instance in particular that stands out. One that truly tested my adaptability, spirit of initiative, and the ability to learn on the job. Last summer, while overseeing operations and efficiency KPIs as a Business Analyst at CTM, I unexpectedly found myself leading the infrastructure division due to a sudden leadership vacuum. Embracing this challenge with enthusiasm, I dived headfirst into the role. I oversaw not just the division's operations but also conducted site visits to understand technical aspects of reinforced soil walls using blocks/panels as facia and the use of geosynthetics, especially #geogrids #geocell #coirmat #geotextile, in the construction process. Coming from a non-civil background, I could feel whispers around questioning my ability to lead the division. But as the saying goes, it does not take formal education but intentional learning to excel in a technical field. The hands-on approach, or rather the "dirt hands" approach🚧👷♂️, broadened my skill set and incredibly exposed me to a completely new and different field, showcasing my ability to excel outside my comfort zone. I'm grateful to the adversary who kickstarted the domino of resignations that led to this opportunity coming my way. Cliché as it may sound, true it is, for every challenge, there sure exists an opportunity and for all my millenial professionals out here. In Dumbledore's wise words, albeit twisted, success can be found even in the darket of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. #ProfessionalGrowth #EntrepreneurialSpirit #Adaptability #civil #geosynthetics #LearningOnTheJob #NewChallenge #LinkedInCommunity #CareerJourney

In theory, frequent, ultra-high-resolution imagery of Earth has near-infinite applications; in reality, only a sliver of that potential has been realized. Albedo aims to be the catalyst in unlocking satellite imagery's latent potential, hoping to expand current applications and propel the discovery of new use cases. Whether our imagery is being used to reduce wildfire risk, assess the environmental impact of global forestry, contribute to timely 3D reconstructions of urban areas, or monitor carbon emissions from industrial power plants, our mission is to get better data into the hands of decision-makers fast. We're modernizing how satellite imagery is used by providing near real-time access to our ultra-high resolution data. What We're Up To:Albedo is developing a novel approach to the earth observation industry, both in space and with our business model. We are intentionally doing things differently by taking
