Retro Relish Chili’s Grill & Bar's strategy to launch an online video game inspired by the ’80s arcade title BurgerTime, titled "Chili’s Big Smasher BurgerTime," serves multiple marketing purposes rooted in nostalgia, engagement, and differentiation. Leveraging nostalgia by invoking a beloved 1980s video game helps Chili’s connect emotionally with a broad demographic, particularly those who fondly remember arcade games from their youth. This emotional connection can increase brand affinity and make the promotional activity more memorable. By integrating a narrative where players fend off mascots from overpriced competitors, Chili’s subtly communicates value and affordability of their offerings compared to competitors, particularly those in the fast food industry. This can help position Chili’s as a better value proposition without directly criticizing competitors. The four ingredients for a great and effective advertising. A short video from the maestro Les Binet, made for beer brands but actually useful for any mass market brand. As another great maestro used to say, “Meditate gente, meditate”.
Someone asked me what the ingredients for effective beer advertising are. So I made this. But really, the same rules apply to pretty much any mass market product. What makes a great beer ad?

This news about Grand Central (home of regular Fireball discounts!) provides a look at one of the positives to come out of a mostly negative Washington, DC #sportsbetting system. DC has had a lot of problems with their sports betting roll-out, primarily due to the use of Gambet and their abysmal app. However, one interesting aspect of DC sports betting is the three tiers of licenses: 1) A city-wide license that went to Gambet (soon to be FanDuel) had the city wide mobile app, 2) individual major sportsbooks had licenses that covered a given sports facility plus two blocks around them (Caesars at Wizards/Capitals arena, BetMGM at Nationals stadium, FanDuel at DC United stadium), and 3) anybody else could effectively launch their own sportsbook within their business. The third option has opened the door to an entrepreneurial spirit you don't see in a lot of jurisdictions. A lot of local bars/restaurants went with a joint William Hill experience. Grand Central went a different direction and started their own sportsbook. In January this year, they did $326,778.73 in handle and $49,094.67 in GGR. A little bit of context: they paid $100,000 for a 5-year class B license. Here's their GGR numbers for this recently completed football season, excluding February: Jan: $49,094.67 Dec: $72,626.66 Nov: $56,065.74 Oct: $22,392.19 Sep: $98,930.29 Would love to see them continue growing! https://lnkd.in/enBzuNs2

Couple of interesting ASA rulings this morning: one on the proper display of promotion Ts & Cs, and another on targeting of age-restricted content. In an upheld complaint against Kingsland Wines, the ASA decided that a requirement that consumers enter a prize draw within 14 days of purchase was significant information that could and should have been disclosed on the bottle neck label. In practice, the draw did not take place until 14 days after the last bottle had been sold - but the ASA pointed out that consumers had no way of knowing whether theirs was the last bottle, creating an effective 14-day deadline for everyone in order to be sure that their entry would count. This shows how important it is to think through the practicalities of a promotion and how they interact with the Ts & Cs. There is also a rejected complaint against Sony in relation to one of its 18-rated Call of Duty games, with a parent complaining that their child had seen an ad on the landing page of the PlayStation Store platform. The ASA said that the violence shown in the ad was quite mild, and, more importantly, that parents could set up parental controls to prevent children from clicking through and seeing more graphic content. Online advertisers should bear in mind that the existence of parental controls, and making sure that more adult content appears in the restricted part of a website or other interface, may support an argument that an ad for an age-restricted product is appropriately targeted. https://lnkd.in/edwa9bNB https://lnkd.in/eE2ywTWm

Today's lesson: 👯 TESTING CONSUMER GROUPS for new #alcohol companies. In 2023, we set out to test the following hypothesis: 🍷 Gen Z will resonate with wine IF they're MARKETED TO properly about wine. How did we get our local Gen Z audience to drink our wine? Game nights, where we sold wine by the bucket. We created Spin the Besa as an excuse to get this online generation to come together around something more than just booze or IG-worthy photoshoots. What Spin the Besa does for this audience: 1. Is a non-alcohol social lubricant and ice-breaker 2. Helps them talk to strangers or get closer with friends 3. Lends itself to natural follow-on conversations after the game is over 4. Gets people to exchange social handles and phone #'s in a non-awkward way Simultaneously, we're testing the hypothesis that the game is a unique marketing tool that will provide wider brand awareness and therefore lead to more sales of our flagship product (this one takes longer for data so stay tuned). You can purchase Spin the Besa on Amazon now for the Holidays (it's a great gift or great game to host with) Use code 10OFFBESA for 10% off 👍 https://lnkd.in/emJn6SiX Watch our journey with the game here: https://lnkd.in/gVH9SaUU

Such a clear way of "show not tell"concept. This message is aimed at those who work tirelessly, reminding them to recharge their "emotional battery" with a cup of Nescafe to power through the day. This approach allows the audience to interpret the message, making it more memorable and impactful. By showing the process of recharging in a creative and relatable way, the ad effectively communicates the benefits of Nescafe without relying on explicit statements. #shownottell #socialmedia #advertisement #communication #marketing

New Post: These air fryer Super Bowl recipes will keep you stuffed during the Big Game - https://lnkd.in/gQiNUb_F - Super Bowl 2024 weekend is nearly here, so you better get prepared. No, you don't need to research the teams or even Taylor Swift's entire discography. But you do need to plan a menu. Forget commercials. Football is fun enough. For my money, the best thing about the Super Bowl is the excuse to engorge yourself with game-day food. The beauty of tailgate-esque food is that it doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, much of its deliciousness lies in its simplicity. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to make Super Bowl snacks, then we here at Mashable have you covered. Through our long-running series AirFryDay, we tried many recipes to determine which to add to your gameday menu. SEE ALSO: How to stream Super Bowl LVIII for free, without cable And the air fryer might be the perfect tool for an event like the Super Bowl. It's effectively a compact, easy-to-clean convection oven. That means your food will get crispy fast, while also not leaving a mess. When making a lot of food — as you might be on Super Bowl Sunday — you can also use the air fryer to open up space in your oven or on your stovetop. So here are some of our favorite air fryer recipes that could work on Super Bowl Sunday, and you can check out the entire series for more options. SEE ALSO: Essential deals to help you host the Big Game like an MVP, from a 4K TV to an air fryer Chicken wingsAs an extreme wing enthusiast, I was surprised that the air fryer could make wings about 90 percent as tasty as the deep fryer with about 10 percent of the hassle. This AirFryDay recipe calls for a few steps that make a difference: two cooks (low and high heat), a rest period, and some flour for added crispiness. Wings, in my humble opinion, are an absolute must-have for the Super Bowl. And you'd be hard-pressed to find a better recipe that doesn't involve a huge vat of oil. SEE ALSO: The only recipe you need for air fryer chicken wings Pigs in a blanketMini glizzies are a fantastic choice for the Big Game. You can eat a dozen of these things and not even notice it. This AirFryDay recipe will give you a great quality appetizer in less time and with less mess than using the oven. Fried chickenYes, we made fake fried chicken in the air fryer. I created this recipe and, frankly, I'm proud of it. It's not as good as actually deep-frying chicken. (Sorry, nothing is.) But it'll give you a really tasty result. If you shrink the AirFryDay recipe by cutting thighs in half, then you could make perfect little sliders for the Super Bowl. French friesFries rule. I'm sorry, but if you can't agree with that, then you're just dead inside. Fries are delicious and should be welcome at any Super Bowl party. Yo
