We're so excited to start the speaker announcements soon! 📢 This year 23 speakers will delve into fantastic topics on our stage, representing 14 countries from across the globe. Some insights on how this year's CFP voting was done. - We've received 392 talk submissions. After the first voting round, we drew a line under the top-voted 125 talks, which got into the shortlisting round. - After the shortlisting vote round, we picked the top 77 talks based on received votes and organised them into topics. - At this point, we de-anonymised the talks, adding names and other details. We researched talks and their presenters to add more factors. Finally, we met online and discussed topics, picking the talks from each topic we liked most, considering all the factors. Stay tuned!

Dear SIG Members, Here is where we start to beg! We desperately need two nominees (minimum) to be on the ballot for our Secretary/Treasurer position. Nominees must be full, voting members of the SIG (alas, graduate students, this excludes you). This position is a two-year position. Per the SIG Bylaws: "The TreasurerSecretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the SIG and the safe keeping of all financial documents of the SIG." This position requires minimal effort and time, but is essential for the SIG (and looks good on your CV). To become a candidate, we need the following information: The full name of each candidate; The institutional affiliation of each candidate; The email address of each candidate; A biographical statement for each candidate, which can be up to 200 words. Please send this to Karyn A. Allee, PhD, the SIG Chair, at allee_ka@mercer.edu or our Program Chair, Annemarie Kaczmarczyk, PhD, at kaczmarczyk_ab@mercer.edu. This is time sensitive because our ballots for the AERA election MUST be completed before October 31. Y'all, it's getting spooky! We need two treats, not tricks! Please consider submitting yourself (or a colleague - because you like them...or don't 😉) for nomination ASAP!

Did you know your jury foreperson usually decides how the jury will conduct deliberations? Either verdict-driven (usually exemplified by taking a poll at the start of deliberations) or evidence-driven (the jury discusses evidence first and does not pick a side right away). In your closing, ask them to deliberate in a way that benefits you! (Study at https://lnkd.in/g_wm8cm8)

Over the past months, OPP has strived to produce high-quality policy analysis to inform our users and community. My brilliant colleagues have been hard at work breaking down EU policies to outline key issues and provide exclusive insights, which I wanted to share today. The policy nerd in me has been fascinated by some of the figures that we have put together, so here is a quick selection that you may find interesting: 🗓 From the date of the proposals, it took 433 days on average for Capital Market Union initiatives to reach the trilogue stage. 💻 The ITRE Committee led almost 40% of this mandate’s digital initiatives, the rest being spread over 5 different committees. 👤 Currently, 53% of candidates who are not re-running MEPs and are likely to be elected in the next term have a background in politics or public administration. 🌳 As of January, 62% of the European Green Deal files had been published in the Official Journal. 📚 As of December 2023, the JURI Committee was busiest in the Parliament in this mandate with 2.16 files per MEP, compared to 1.56 or 0.76 for ENVI and ITRE respectively.
