Have you heard of Therapy Dogs at the Dentist? Well, we have a unique one-of-a-kind "Dentistry with a Dif-fur-rence" Program at our clinic, HNM Dental Centre! 🐾 Being India's first Dentist trained in Animal-Assisted Interventions, I have incorporated this special program at my practice, where we have embraced the calming and therapeutic presence of a Therapy Animal, to transform the dental experience for our patients. The program integrates Wrigley, our Therapy dog into our practice, to help reduce anxiety and make dental visits more comfortable, and is specially trained to interact with patients in a gentle and supportive manner, making even the most anxious patients feel at ease. Our furry team member is a part of our commitment to innovative patient care. He is present to cuddle, play, provide a distraction, and bring a sense of calm to our practice, making the dental visit a positive and fun, educational experience for the littlest of patients. This approach not only improves the patient experience but also helps build a positive association with dental care, particularly for those who may have had negative experiences in the past. We're excited to share this unique aspect of our practice and to see the positive impact it has on our patients' well-being. It's peak summer on Martha's Vineyard now, and with the focus on beach, boats, and ice cream the consequence of the isolation of the island's indigenous rural community is invisible. Flipping the status quo to bring healthcare to the patient is proven to improve health outcomes. Oral health is no different. As the report says: The findings from this research could inform policy decisions to enhance health care accessibility for underserved populations. This might involve funding mobile health units, incentivizing providers to work in underserved areas, and improving infrastructure to support mobile health care delivery. Integrating mobile services into the health care system requires systemic changes to ensure their support and integration into existing networks and reimbursement systems. 

The risks to NHS dental services from direct application of an EU amalgam ban are immense. Already, unmitigated soaring costs at practice level, gross underinvestment via loss generating fees, plus failure to reform dental services and invest in oral health have brought HS dentistry to its knees. We’ve taken the message to Stormont -continued apathy and inaction by DoH will lead to collapse of this vital public service. To a service that is already so deeply financially unstable, where practitioners cannot continue to deliver at a loss, without an immediate stabilisation package plus full mitigations, Amalgam will be the final straw
