Qualcomm just confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be unveiled in October, a year after the release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The new mobile SoC is expected to be Qualcomm's most high-profile mobile AP yet, with in-house Nuvia cores replacing stock Arm cores. While details about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are scarce, Qualcomm inadvertently confirmed that it will be codenamed "Sun" on benchmarking platforms and "Pakala" on the hardware front in a recent YouTube video. Rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's performance are varied, with some reports claiming it can outperform the Apple A18 Pro, while others predict a more modest improvement. There are also concerns about its power draw and thermal management. #qualcomm #snapdragon #snapdragon8gen4 #SoC #chipsets #smartphones #android #mobiletechnology #mobiletechnologynews #chips #semiconductors #semiconductorindustry #semiconductormanufacturing

When Marketing Promises Outpace the Product Early benchmarks of the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, powering all Microsoft’s newly announced Copilot+ PCs, indicate a significant gap between marketing promises and performance achieved. The device allegedly benchmarks slower than a four-year-old iPhone 12. This highlights the risk of overselling and underdelivering, which could severely impact consumer trust and commercial results. #ProductDevelopment #Marketing #ConsumerTrust #Qualcomm https://lnkd.in/eY6exvUg

Qualcomm is set to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip with a rumored significant price increase, potentially up to $240 per unit, marking a 30% hike from its predecessor. This move could make the processor too expensive for many mid-range smartphone manufacturers, shifting focus to more affordable options. The increased costs are attributed to advancements like the 3nm process and custom #Oryon cores, promising superior performance but also higher power consumption and heat generation. As consumers seek alternatives, the mid-range market may see intensified competition from players like MediaTek, offering powerful yet cost-effective solutions such as the #Dimensity 9300 chip. Reportedly, Qualcomm initially planned to release the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with a target frequency of 4.0GHz. However, following the launch of Apple M4 with its impressive single-core performance and high clock speed, Qualcomm has decided to redesign the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The redesigned flagship Android chip is expected to be finalized by June and will aim for a frequency of 4.26 GHz. This adjustment will enable Qualcomm to compete with Apple's A18 and A18 Pro chips, which boast higher clock speeds. Apple's A-series chips are essentially scaled-down versions of M-series SoCs. Qualcomm is expected to reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in October, providing the company with several months to finalize the design before distributing it to smartphone partners. With a targeted frequency of 4.26GHz, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is anticipated to significantly improve single-core performance. Additionally, its rumored '2 + 6' CPU cluster configuration is likely to bring notable enhancements in multi-core performance as well.
