I start each day with gratitude but today I’m choosing violence. While on paternity leave, I had a vendor reach out to me on LinkedIn 13 times! That’s more than once per week. None of the messages were personalized or relevant. Just spray and pray. How am I even supposed to respond? This is why client-side researchers are often short or dismissive. It’s not you. We respect the hustle (at least I do!). There is a ton of awesome, cutting edge tech out there pushing the research industry forward, but man is there a lot of sales nonsense. #marketresearch #customerinsights #clientside #gratitude

Starting from 1878: 160,000 young women were employed as telephone operators - i.e managing calls and more nuanced needs (summoning police, ambulances, ensuring messages were properly forwarded etc, providing insights into available services). By the late 1920s, AT&T automated them by introducing "mechanical switching" technology. This technological shift greatly hurt and displaced numerous women from their roles as telephone operators. “Women who were already working as telephone operators, who were displaced by this — they really did suffer. They saw earnings losses in the near term, many of them dropped out of the workforce entirely,” “I think the lesson for people sort of coming up behind is that if you have enough time, it is possible to adjust.” Are we giving ourself enough time though? Where are the upskilling programes today offered to people who's jobs are at higher risk of automation and/or augmentation? Mckinsey studied such job loss scenarios based on 2017 employment data. The composition of potential job losses and gains for men and women could be different. Service-oriented (administrative) and clerical support occupations could account for 52 percent of women’s job losses, and machine operation and craft work occupations could account for 40 percent of men’s losses. https://lnkd.in/dk2biPhG
