A major milestone has been reached in revolutionizing train travel with gigabit data rates thanks to 5G corridors along the tracks! 🚄 Deutsche Bahn, Ericsson, O2 Telefónica, and Vantage Towers have completed the initial phases of Germany's first 5G mobile communications corridor project, enabling seamless work, streaming, and communication at speeds up to 5 gigabits per second on trains! With EUR 6.4 million in funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, the "Gigabit Innovation Track" project ensures high-performance 5G connections along railway lines. Gigabit Innovation Track (GINT) – the Testtrack is ready for Highspeed-Internet in the train!   In times of the mobility transformation, the railways in Germany are playing an even greater role than they have in the past. Whether as an alternative to flying, as an office on wheels or as a quick substitute for long journeys on motorways. To support this goal, we have launched the GINT project with our partners Deutsche Bahn, Telefónica Germany and Vantage Towers, which is now picking up speed.   The project partners have built the radio masts, communication and network technology for the high-speed mobile radio tests in record time only 8 months since the official funding notice of the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport. We have preconfigured a special mobile network, including the core and radio access, at our Aachen research center Eurolab. This enabled us to deliver it extremely quickly and get the technology up and running.   We are now entering the field trials phase and are looking forward to the first results how 5G in the frequency range of 3.5 GHz (“Midband”) can provide high-speed connectivity for railways. The Federal Highway Administration released its Saving Lives with Connectivity: A Plan to Accelerate V2X Deployment, which lays out a path forward to widespread deployment of this lifesaving technology. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology is already being deployed across the country to connect vehicles with each other, infrastructure, first responders, vulnerable road users and more. This represents an important layer of the Safe System approach. Vehicle safety capabilities paired with V2X can offer corrective action or warnings for drivers to improve driving behavior and prevent crashes. GHSA and other stakeholders heard from FHWA today about their plan to accelerate the deployment of V2X connectivity through collaboration and coordination across the federal government, state governments, the public sector and private industry. The origins of World Telecommunication Day date back to an era when the telegraph was the cutting-edge technology, revolutionizing how we communicated across distances. The introduction of the telegraph laid the groundwork for the interconnected world we live in today. Over the decades, telecommunications evolved at a rapid pace, from the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876 to the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik, in 1957, which paved the way for global satellite communications. Fast forward to the present, and we find ourselves in the era of 5G technology. 5G, or the fifth generation of mobile networks, is a game-changer in the world of telecommunications.
