Who is Buy-Side Research Analyst?🤔 Let's discuss who is actually a buy side research analyst. The Buy Side #Analyst is the one who prepares the exclusive research report for a particular entity in order for them to invest in that particular researched stock. Let's understand better with examples, suppose you have a lot of money, assume it's 100 Crore. Now, you want to invest that 100 cr into a company. You will go to an independent research analyst and tell him that there is one company ABC limited and you want a research report on that company in order to know if it's worth investing your money. Now the analyst will prepare the research report and give it to you which is exclusively for you only, no one else can get the access of that report. This is what a buy side report is, the buy side analyst prepares reports exclusively for a particular entity. Similar example can be applied to institutions, where Buy Side Analyst are hired to provide exclusive reports to the fund managers for investing the institutional money into the researched stocks. Here is a basic checklist approach for equity research! 😎 I am going to create 7 different types of checklists that every equity research analyst should follow in order to mine diamond like companies out of junk. As Benjamin graham says "An investor should consistently act as an investor and not as a speculator" 🤑 This basic checklist not only enables analysts, it also enables young investors understand the importance of researching before investing and not speculate! 😃 Find these things about the company, put it in excel and accordingly rate it, in the next post, I will create a checklist to check the quality of the management. Sector the company is present in? How much holding the promoter has in the company? How much the promoter holding is pledged? What is 5 year revenue cagr? What is the 5 year Net profit cagr? How much has the interest cost Increased/Decreased in last 5 years? How much is the Dividend Yield? Is the trend Increasing? How much Debt has increased/decreased in last 5 years? How has the trend changed in Debt/Equity ratio? How has the trend changed in ROE/ROCE? Have the cash from operations been positive in last 10 years? Is the company generating free cash flows in the last 10 years? Has the company been able to maintain a low cash conversion cycle? Is the product such which can replace imports? Is it difficult to get raw materials for the said products? Is the product heavily licensed and has less business competition?
