We know this drill too damn well.
We also know that given the current state of political division, "silo thinking," "them and us narratives," that the go-to response will be "what did they look like?" or "what was their religion?" or "who did they vote for?" or "what was their sexual orientation?" or fill-in-the blank
Please don't allow it. Please shut it down. It accomplishes nothing.
No matter what you believe, take into your heart that this incident is yet another national embarrassment in a long string of embarrassments. The world is laughing at us, and it should. We have soiled ourselves.
ALL this was, was again pure evil triumphing over good. Of mental illness, of unresolved hate and anger, of self-centeredness and stupidity.
Politicians and cable news, social media and a host of pundits will use this incident as an angry platform to spout their solemn and pompous positions. What we need is to start talking to one another and to find solutions. THAT, dear friends, is the ethical way to go.
Finally we need to first pray for the victims and their families. No matter what you believe or even if you believe in nothing, take their grief into your world. All the victims wanted to do was to celebrate a sports event. That's it.
