These are great truths about speechwriting, especially #7. Speechwriting can’t be done well as a 9am - 5pm job. The best speechwriters are those who mine their everyday lives for facts, emotions, experiences, and lessons that transform good speeches into great ones.

How to write a great speech: Firstly, the speech writing begins with the speaker who knows the story they want to tell. The speaker has to connect to the story. It shouldn't just be mere words. There should be a headline where the story hangs on to. Say something bigger than the moment. Look beyond the headliner. Look beyond that moment. Authenticity. Make it real. Things people can relate to in their everyday life. Humour. Tell jokes to engage your audience. Know your audience. Have a permission structure in speechwriting (establish trust). You can share a personal story or find shared values or interests to create a sense of unity. Bonus tips: Any inspired speechwriting should write constantly. Read widely. #writing #writer #Speechwriting #myjourneyonLinkedIn

Sincerely, poor writing skill is a big turn-off. And the most interesting thing about writing is you just have to learn how to express yourself in simple and correct English. Writing is first about communication. And the aim of communication is understanding. So, if you can write in simple English that your audience can understand and relate to, you have done a good job. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 💊𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 The appropriate use of punctuation marks makes reading easy. On the other hand, you can complicate things for your readers when you do not use your punctuation marks correctly. The commonly used punctuation marks are: Fullstop, question mark, exclamation mark, comma, semi-colon, colon, apostrophe, etc. 💊𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐛 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝) Your write-up will make a lot of sense if you understand the rules of Concord. In simple terms, the rule of concord states that, "If the subject of a sentence is singular, then the verb must be singular, and if the subject is plural, the verb must also be in the plural form." Example: 1. He loves to read. "He" is a singular subject, and so it must go with a singular verb which is loves. Therefore, it is wrong to say, "He love to read."❌ 2. They always pray together. "They" is a plural subject, and so it must go with a plural verb which is pray. Therefore, it is wrong to say, "They always prays together."❌ (I think I will have to make an extensive post on this, one of these days). 💊𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 Homophones are words that sound alike, but are spelt differently and they also have different meanings. Example; Their and there, Am and I'm, where and were, live and leave, by and buy, etc. They are a whole lot. Knowing when to use a particular word in writing is a skill that you should master. Never say, Am John.❌ Instead, say, I'm John or I am John.✅ I hope this helps. © GOODNEWS BUEKOR #TheSterlingWriter #nonfictionbookeditor

Whenever a beginner writer asks me about a few tips to keep in mind while starting to write, I put much emphasis on this one thing. "Do use writing tools to polish and refine your writing, but never skip manual proofreading." I have seen "social hangover" become "social harassment," “pleasure” become “pressure” and that completely changed what I was trying to convey. So I know how important manual proofreading is!! It is not something you should skip. #writing #proofreading #editing

"Struggling with speech writing? Try this!" The key to great speech writing is to make the words come alive. To lock eyes and leave hearts pounding. Think of your speech like a story. Start with a character and a conflict. Make it personal, something your audience can relate to. I love starting my speeches with How many of you.....? or a beautiful Quote followed by -How many of you ...? Introduce twists and turns that keep them hooked. Add a pinch of humor - it's like seasoning, just enough to make it delicious. End with a climax that leaves them feeling inspired and empowered. But most importantly? Be yourself. Speak from the heart. Great speeches are not just about the words on the page, they’re about the connection you make with your audience. So, the next time you sit down to write a speech, remember: You are the story. And your audience is waiting to be captivated.

"Thank you" is used to express gratitude, especially in formal settings. "Thanks" is an informal way of expressing gratitude. While it is alright to say "thank you" in an informal environment, it is not acceptable to say "thanks" in a formal environment. This is particularly unacceptable in a formal letter, such as an application letter, an acceptance letter or an offer letter. Keep the receiver of your written text in mind when writing. That will guide you on whether to use formal or informal terms. Share your writing problems with us and let us come up with personalised solutions for you.
