Are you familiar with the REDUCE Act (H.R. 7279)? Keep reading to learn what this bipartisan legislation aims to do and how to advocate! Reps. Don Davis and Lloyd Smucker introduced the Remove Duplicative Unnecessary Clerical Exchanges (REDUCE) Act (H.R. 7279) which aims to eliminate the requirement for a signed plan of care for Medicare beneficiaries if the patient already has a signed referral. Currently, Medicare mandates that physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) must obtain a signed plan of care within 30 days of evaluation, which can pose challenges if the referring physician is unavailable. The REDUCE Act seeks to alleviate administrative burdens on healthcare providers and streamline patient care processes by removing this requirement, ultimately enhancing efficiency in healthcare delivery. Often, medical providers greatly benefit from the support of ancillary services to ensure their effectiveness. Are you aware that there are three distinct categories of ancillary services? These include: diagnostic services (such as bloodwork, x-rays, and MRI scans) therapeutic services (including occupational therapy and physical therapy) custodial services, often referred to as care delivery services (such as rehabilitation services, home health services, and emergency medical technicians). If you are a healthcare provider, which type of ancillary service do you find yourself relying on the most in your practice? If you are a patient, which of these ancillary services have you found to be the most impactful and for which you are most grateful? #gratitude #GratitudeJournal #gratitudedaily #gratitudeattitude #ancillaryservices #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist See insights and ads Boost post View post on Facebook

🚨 Important Update for Healthcare Providers and Patients 🚨 Starting in Fall 2024, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) now requires prior authorization for physical and occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and chiropractic services under select plans. This change impacts Medicare Advantage members (since Sept 1) and Medicaid managed care plans (since Oct 1). Providers are reporting delays and tech glitches, creating challenges for timely patient care. Want to take action? Read the blog for important details and advocacy resources to put patients over paperwork: https://bit.ly/3YAxSbi #HealthcareUpdates #PriorAuthorization #PatientCare #Rehabilitation #blog #PowerbackRehab

Allied health professional, senior academic and leader. Strategic and operational responsibility for design, development, delivery and implementation of health, care, science and wellbeing undergraduate qualifications.
A great piece of work from Professor Richard Griffin MBE, Abi Hall and Ian Kessler. Along with my Pearson colleagues, I'm proud to be part of the education solution for healthcare support workers including assistant practitioners. With "another 204,000 needed by 2037 to meet [NHS] demand", there has got to be some joined up thinking relating skills, education and employment. I don't deny I'd like to be a bigger part of the solution. The current 'one size fits all' approach to assistant practitioner apprenticeship qualifications isn't the way to go. With so many more support workers, assistant practitioners included, education and learning has 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 flexible and meet the needs of a wide range of learners as well as employers. #AssistantPractitioners #SupportWorkers #Healthcare #HigherNationals #HigherTechnicalQualifications #BTEC
Delighted that we have now published our study of NHS clinical support workers investigating whether the issues identified by The Cavendish Review in 2013 still characterise their experience of work. https://lnkd.in/e9HvBRQq

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital) & Assistant Professor at Rush University
Support SB279 for NPs to have full practice authority in the state of Michigan helping remove barriers for patients and families to access quality, safe, holistic care. Nurse practitioners are highly educated clinicians who traditionally practice in underserved rural and urban areas delivering high quality, cost-effective care equal to or better than physician-delivered care. In critical care settings, research has shown that NPs reduce length of stay, time to consultation and treatment, mortality, improved patient satisfaction and cost savings. As a pediatric and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I pride myself on being on the front lines of the youth mental health crisis and serving medically complex, psychiatrically ill patients providing access to care they may not otherwise receive. Help me and my fellow NPs serve more patients by allowing full practice authority. #breakbarriers #increaseaccess #serve Lana Theis

Chronic Low Back Pain affects an immense proportion of the population and greatly impacts our ability to be productive. The WHO has added further to the discussion with the release of its recommendations for care guidelines. The growing body of evidence continues to direct us to active rehabilitation strategies and specific instruction to avoid passive modalities along with certain pharmacological interventions. #healthandsafety #rehabilitation #constructionsafety

Founder @ ezPT | AI Clinical Documentation for Physical Therapy & Wellness Clinics | Faster Documentation, Lesser Provider Burnout | Digital Health
Prime example of Red Tape in Healthcare A critical aspect of our healthcare often goes unnoticed: the administrative hurdles imposed on clinicians that eventually impact patient care and reimbursements. Currently, if a patient is referred to physical therapy by their physician, Physical Therapists (PTs) are required to send their treatment plans to the referring physicians for sign-off. If the physician doesn't sign off within 30 days, the onus falls on the PT to obtain it. Failure to do so can result in delayed payments from Medicare and interruptions in patient care. The "Reduce Duplicative Unnecessary Clerical Exchanges" (REDUCE) Act aims to eliminate such unnecessary bureaucratic steps. Under the new Act, the plan of care certification requirement will be considered fulfilled as long as the PT submits the plan of care to the referring provider. This change will eliminate the hassle of PTs chasing physicians for their signatures, reducing the workload for physical therapists and the responsibilities for referring physicians. It's a welcome change. Kudos to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) for advocating policy changes that prioritize patient care and support the vital work of physical therapists.
