https://lnkd.in/gM84Tsrz Incredible sustainability work by Auckland Airport, who, over the past three months, have composted 13.5 tonnes of organic waste and compostables. Part of the Airport’s broader waste strategy, composting at the domestic terminal began late last year. Their compost programme now covers public eating areas within and around the food court and six kitchens. To reach their goal of reducing landfill waste by 20% by 2030 for aeronautical operations, composting is set to begin within the international terminal, and certified compostable coffee cups are mandatory to reduce contamination. Envirofert Ltd Tuakau collects and transforms the Auckland Airport collections into organic compost, which is used by fruit and vegetable growers across Pukekohe, Waikato, the Bay of Plenty and East Cape. To align with the 1.5-degree pathway, by 2030 requires we invest in circular systems. Well done, Auckland Airport, for pushing sustainability. Composting is a part of many initiatives to reduce waste creation, such as installing air dryers in bathrooms to remove paper towels, encouraging dine-in and working with retailers to remove plastic bags. Bio Collectors Featured in the Evening Standard for Award-Winning Closed-Loop Solution with Azzurri Group We are thrilled to announce that Bio Collectors has been featured in the Evening Standard for our innovative and award-winning closed-loop solution, which we developed in partnership with the Azzurri Group. The article highlights our collaboration as part of Azzurri’s extensive sustainability efforts. The partnership involves collecting food waste from Zizzi branches, ASK Italian outlets, and other businesses. This waste is then processed into biogas and nutrient-rich fertiliser. The biogas powers our vehicles, and the fertiliser is used to grow wheat for making flour, which Zizzi uses in its pizza bases. This initiative exemplifies a pioneering circular food waste system in the UK hospitality sector. Our closed-loop system reduces waste and contributes to sustainable agriculture and energy use, showcasing the potential for significant positive environmental impacts within the food industry.
