Thanks to all who attended our 2024 SID Annual Meeting on Thursday morning, and a special thanks to THE NEON for hosting us! Property owners, business leaders, community partners, and other key stakeholders gathered to hear updates highlighting recent progress from DDP staff and other guest speakers. Here are some of the big takeaways: • $400 million in projects from public- and private-sector investments in Greater Downtown Dayton have been completed so far in 2024 - the largest downtown investment since tracking began in 2010. $2.55 billion in projects have been completed since 2010, and we're on track to reach $3.5 billion in investment by 2030. • A strong demand to live downtown saw 353 housing units added or anticipated to be completed so far this year. Another 251 units are currently under construction with 436 in the pipeline. • Hospitality development continues to grow with 221 hotel rooms completed downtown, 362 under construction, and 413 more in the pipeline. • 28 new businesses have opened their doors so far in 2024. • The Downtown Ambassadors continue to earn high praise from downtown businesses and property owners for the work they do to keep the city clean and safe. The forum aims to strengthen ties between local authority planning departments and the business community, facilitating collaboration and addressing sector issues, particularly planning system delays. The Chamber highlighted the need for 5,000 new homes in South Yorkshire, emphasising that planning delays hinder both the property sector and regional economic growth. The forum's launch at New York Stadium attracted over 50 senior professionals and featured speakers like Colin Blackburn of SYMCA, James Pitt of Muse, and Joanne Neville of Harworth Group plc, discussing regional development and challenges. Matthew Stephens, President of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, stated that South Yorkshire housing development lags behind other areas due to complex planning processes and resource limitations in planning departments, resulting in economic impacts. We have advised long standing client London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) on the formation of a joint venture partnership with Vistry Group for the phased delivery of a new residential and commercial neighbourhood, including the delivery of 948 new homes, at Pudding Mill Lane, Stratford. The scheme, which will be 45% affordable new homes and include 30,000 sq m of non-residential floor space to accommodate a mix of workspace, retail, community and leisure uses, will further energise Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park's already thriving Innovation Cluster and world-leading Knowledge, Culture and Education District. #Muse has strengthened its team in the North West with the appointment of Tom Darby as development director. Darby will oversee Prestwich Village masterplan and Crescent Salford schemes He joins the Salford-based team from #Bruntwood where he has worked for the past 10 years where he has helped deliver several transformational commercial and research & development schemes.  This includes Enterprise Wharf in the heart of Birmingham’s Knowledge Quarter, the £200m+ Birmingham Health Innovation Campus, Glasshouse at #AlderleyPark just outside of Manchester, and #BegbrokeSciencePark in Oxfordshire. Darby will now support the £100m Prestwich Village masterplan as well as the Innovation Zone in Salford, which is pivotal to the wider £2.5bn, 252-acre Crescent Salford masterplan. Crescent Salford is being brought forward by ECF – the placemaking partnership between Muse, Legal & General, and Homes England, together with Salford City Council and University of Salford.
