📢 The first Compostable Bioplastics Italian forum in Rome (12 JUNE 2024) Attending the "1° Forum Italiano delle Bioplastiche Compostabili" at the Ara Pacis in Rome was an enriching experience for our InnoDaBio team 🌍. Representing the University of Padova, I had the pleasure of attending alongside my esteemed colleagues, Prof. Alessandra Lorenzetti and Ms. Dominique Rocher, PhD Candidate of Università degli Studi di Padova at DAFNAE - Dip. di Agronomia, Animali, Alimenti, Risorse naturali e Ambiente - UniPD and co-founder of Urobo Biotech. This event, organized by Biorepack in partnership with the Consorzio Italiano Compostatori - CIC I and Assobioplastiche, gathered over 150 participants who share a commitment to advancing the bioplastics sector ♻. The forum provided a platform to highligh the industry's progress and the challenges it faces. Despite a slowdown in 2023 📉, the sector continues to innovate and expand. However, issues such as end-of-life challenges and misinformation remain significant obstacles ⚠. These challenges, if unaddressed, could undermine the sector’s potential growth and sustainability. The discussions emphasized the importance of comprehensive waste management strategies and the need for robust regulatory frameworks to support the bioplastics industry 📜. Notably, the forum underscored the critical role of collaboration among industry stakeholders and governmental bodies to foster a thriving and sustainable bioplastics ecosystem. Our team at InnoDaBio, a project funded by Fondazione Cariverona with the support of BTS Biogas | Impianti biogas e biometano and ETRA SpA Società benefit is dedicated to contributing to this dialogue, leveraging our expertise in advanced materials and sustainable practices 🔬. We firmly believe that bioplastics will play a pivotal role in the transition towards a more sustainable future 🌱, provided that we integrate advanced waste management solutions into the lifecycle of these materials. Special thanks to all the distinguished speakers and organizers for an insightful and productive forum. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with industry and academic partners to drive innovation and sustainability in the bioplastics sector 🤝. #Bioplastics #Sustainability #Innovation #WasteManagement #InnoDaBio #UniversityofPadova #Biorepack #CircularEconomy

The participation in the conference #BioBio2024 in Prague was one of the highlight of the first half of the year for the SYMBIOREM Project. The projects of the #EU #Bioremediation Cluster worked hard to organise a successful event in which SYMBIOREM, MIBIREM, Nymphe, BIOSYSMO Project, EDAPHOS, and ISLANDR Horizon EU shared the progress of their research activities and discussed the potential of bioremediation to create healthier soils, cleaner groundwater, and better air quality through natural processes and microorganisms. The cluster event was enriched by a panel discussion moderated by Victor de Lorenzo (Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC) on the topics of the use and release of #bacteria, #microbes, and #GMOs for bioremediation, the scientific implications of different remediation approaches, and the barriers to large-scale implementation of bioremediation system. This discussion resulted in the drafting of a joint #policy #document signed by the six cluster projects and addressed to #EU decision-makers and environmental researchers.
