🌱 Did you know that Denmark is implementing one of the world’s most ambitious agreements to increase biodiversity? At COP16 Colombia in Cali, from October 21 to November 1, a Danish delegation will showcase how Denmark is advancing the biodiversity agenda. A long tradition of research, innovation, and strong public-private partnerships makes Denmark a leading player in the green transition of food, agriculture, and land use. Denmark’s Green Tripartite Agreement was developed by the government, the agricultural sector, environmental groups, and business leaders. The deal introduces an agricultural CO₂ tax and emphasizes afforestation and peatland rewetting to lower emissions and promote sustainable farming. The agreement includes the New Green Area Fund of approximately EUR 5.4 billion, supporting initiatives such as afforestation and rewetting of drained peatlands. This means that 15% of Denmark’s existing agricultural area will be converted to forests and rewetted zones. One standout example of company engagement in the biodiversity agenda comes from Danish coffee producer Slow, which is transforming coffee’s environmental impact through regenerative farming. Through agroforestry and reforestation, Slow integrates trees and diverse crops with coffee plants, creating a rich ecosystem that enhances biodiversity, improves soil health, and reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. In Southeast Asia, Slow has achieved a net-negative carbon baseline by planting trees and capturing more CO₂ than they emit. Each kilo of coffee produced captures 6 kg of CO₂—a significant contrast to traditional coffee production, which typically emits over 5 kg. With 44,000 trees planted in 2023 alone, Slow is making a lasting impact, proving that coffee production can actively support climate goals, biodiversity, and community livelihoods. Read the Slow case on our website: https://lnkd.in/dWRFdm2R Get involved with the Danish delegation at COP16 and gain insights and best practices from Denmark!

Raffinerie Tirlemontoise - Tiense Suikerraffinaderij, BENEO and Puratos have joined forces to launch a pioneering Climate Farming Project. The ambitious initiative supports Belgian farmers in implementing more #sustainable farming practices and promotes #regenerative agricultural principles that contribute to enhancing soil health and reducing environmental impact. BENEO’s Corporate Sustainability Manager, Nathalie Sadin comments: “Considering the entire value chain of our functional ingredients is key to supporting the transition towards a sustainable food system. This includes how the crops that we later process are grown. There is no doubt that the search for more sustainable cultivation methods requires close collaboration with farmers. Supporting them with climate change resilience and regenerative practices is a key element within our sustainability strategy. This is why we are excited to be part of this joint project that enables the exchange of know-how and experience in this area.” Curious to learn more about the project?
