🌿 Contracted Biodiversity, Biomass and Oxygen: A New Paradigm in Ecosystem Restoration 🌳 At AQUAE, we’re advancing the concept of Contracted Biodiversity, Contracted Biomass and Contracted Oxygen a strategic approach where biodiversity outcomes are contracted, monitored, and incentivized to ensure long-term ecological success. This innovative model allows stakeholders to commit to specific biodiversity targets, driving impactful change in ecosystem restoration. Through the AQUAE Labs Ecosystem Credit Index (ALECI), we are integrating contracted biodiversity, contracted biomass and contracted Oxygen credits into our sustainable finance frameworks, ensuring that nature’s value is both recognized and rewarded. Let’s work together to build resilient ecosystems that support both nature and the economy. 🌎🌳 Earth Restoration #ContractedBiodiversity #BiodiversityCredits #SustainableFinance #AQUAEImpact #ALECI #EcosystemRestoration #ClimateAction #SDG #AQUAELabs

🌍 How AQUAE Labs Measures Biomass, Biodiversity, and Primary Ecosystem Services🌱 The AQUAE Labs Ecosystems Credit Index (ALECI) provides landowners with a comprehensive portfolio that includes a wide variety of flora and fauna, validated at the ground level. Our unique approach ensures that each ALECI portfolio is rich in biodiversity, covering taxa from birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, to invertebrates, alongside a diverse range of plant biomass. Beyond biodiversity, ALECI also recognizes and integrates the value of Primary Ecosystem Services, which are critical to sustaining life on Earth. These include: - 🌿 Photosynthesis: Capturing carbon to combat climate change. - 🍃 Oxygen Production: Ensuring the air we breathe remains pure. - 💧 Groundwater Purification: Recycling water back into the atmosphere. At AQUAE Labs, we are committed to promoting sustainable growth by harnessing the natural capital of our ecosystems. This World Environment Day, we’re celebrating solar energy’s contribution to biodiversity! Did you know that solar farms play an essential role in supporting biodiversity? Over 12 months, ten farms were studied where pro-ecological measures, such as introducing dead wood, biomass, and sand to create favorable conditions for insects, were implemented. Research revealed: • Various insects find shelter in areas occupied by photovoltaic installations. Thanks to stable environmental conditions, these insects can winter there. By colonizing neighboring fields and meadows, these insects support farmers by reducing pest populations. • Well-planned activities on large areas of solar farms can create favorable living conditions for many species of animals and plants, confirming that photovoltaics positively impact energy production and the natural environment. • Soil health can be improved with protection from solar farm installations over dormant farmlands. The Biomass Projects initiative in Western Australia aims to convert the widespread invasive mesquite trees into biochar, significantly contributing to global carbon reduction efforts and soil restoration. While biochar’s impact potential is significant, the project's impact on local ecosystems and biodiversity raises important questions. Mesquite trees, although considered invasive in Australia, are resilient and could play a vital role in desert ecosystems if managed properly. Alternatively, we would see these trees integrated into a regenerative model that maximizes carbon capture while bolstering biodiversity. A balanced approach could turn a potential issue into a valuable opportunity for climate action and regional economic/ecological resilience. Explore our desert restoration ranch model, a novel approach to food, fuel, and fiber production that can ‘undesertify’ land and produce three times as much ethanol per acre as corn. BESS⚡️Shetland Lower Blackhill project consented on 21 February (up to 100MW). An interesting decision in that the accepted absence of biodiversity impacts removed the need for securing any biodiversity enhancement. Para 44 best articulates this 👇 and shows some divergence from new mandatory BNG rules down south. "Scottish Ministers conclude that it is not necessary or justified to impose a planning condition requiring mitigation of a non-effect by the enhancement of biodiversity and they reject the suggestion by the Planning Authority that such a condition is necessary." The counter-balance was the project did not benefit from support under NPF4 Policy 3 – whilst it may not have harmed biodiversity, it also did not conserve, restore and enhance it. Nevertheless the strength of policy support for BESS is such that the application was granted. The decision reaffirms that energy storage development is “essential infrastructure” in the eyes of Ministers that can effectively benefit from the same policy support as a wind or solar farm by virtue of its “indirect but significant contribution to renewable energy generation targets”.
