The Secret Fix Rainscreen Cladding System, often referred to as SFS1, represents a significant advancement in architectural design and building facade technology. This system is specifically designed to offer a clean, seamless appearance to buildings by concealing the fixing components that attach the cladding panels to the building structure. Unlike traditional cladding systems where the fasteners are visible and can detract from the aesthetic appeal, the SFS1 system ensures that the fasteners are hidden, providing an uninterrupted and sleek surface that enhances the modernity of the structure. One of the key benefits of the Secret Fix Rainscreen Cladding System is its contribution to the thermal efficiency of buildings. By creating a ventilated cavity between the cladding and the external wall, it allows for continuous airflow, thus reducing thermal bridging and enhancing the building's energy efficiency. This not only contributes to a reduction in heating and cooling costs but also aligns with contemporary environmental sustainability goals. Furthermore, the installation of the SFS1 system is engineered for durability and resilience. The cladding panels are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, protecting the building from water ingress, wind, and even solar damage. This longevity and low maintenance requirement make the Secret Fix Rainscreen Cladding System an attractive option for architects and developers aiming to combine aesthetic appeal with functional, long-lasting performance. Whether for commercial or residential buildings, the SFS1 system offers a solution that meets the demands for modern, efficient, and visually appealing construction. Advantages of Using Clay Bricks in Energy-Efficient Building Designs I wanted to explore the key advantages of using clay bricks in energy-efficient building designs and how they contribute to sustainable construction practices. When it comes to building green, clay bricks are a top choice for architects, builders, and homeowners alike. One of the primary advantages of clay bricks in energy-efficient building designs is their thermal mass properties. Clay bricks offer numerous advantages for energy-efficient construction, providing comfort, durability, and long-term savings. Clay bricks have the ability to absorb, store, and release heat over time, helping to regulate indoor temperatures and reduce the need for mechanical heating and cooling systems. This natural thermal inertia not only improves occupant comfort but also reduces energy consumption and utility costs. Further, consideration of brick as a component in creating a mass wall system allows for a reduction of wall insulation which will still hit the prescribed energy efficiency of other wall systems. With strategic use of insulation and air and water barriers, walls utilizing clay brick can provide superior thermal performance, minimizing heat transfer and reducing thermal bridging. This results in more consistent indoor temperatures, reduced heating and cooling loads, and increased energy savings over the life of the building. Furthermore, clay bricks are inherently durable and low maintenance, making them a sustainable choice for long-lasting construction. With minimal maintenance requirements and a lifespan of over 100 years, clay bricks offer a sustainable solution for reducing the environmental impact of construction & minimizing the need for frequent renovations, and replacements. When factoring in regularly recurring maintenance costs of other cladding materials, bricks generally end up being the lowest cost option for cladding over the long run. Moreover, clay bricks are made from natural materials that are abundant and locally sourced, further reducing their environmental footprint, the clay and shale materials do not have to be refined (which would require large amounts of energy) prior to use. Additionally, per pound of material produced, brick uses less energy that glass, aluminum, or steel. With sustainable production practices and recyclable/salvageable properties, clay bricks align with green building standards and contribute to a healthier planet. By harnessing the benefits of clay bricks in energy-efficient building designs, architects and builders can create spaces that are not only comfortable and durable but also environmentally responsible and cost-effective. #Architecture #Design #Architecturelover #Architecturedetail #Architect #Designer #Mason #Masonry #Masonrystrong #ClayBrick #Brick #Bricks #Bricklayer #Environment

WHY TIMBER? Timber, sometimes referred to as wood, is a renewable resource that has many uses and advantages. The following are some of the many reasons why wood is a great material for building and other applications: 1. Sustainability: The resource wood is replenishable. It can be a carbon-footprint-reducing, sustainable building material if it comes from forests that are carefully managed. 2. Carbon Sequestration: As they develop, trees take in carbon dioxide, which is then stored as wood. By storing carbon during the building process, the use of lumber in construction helps to slow down global warming. 3. Energy Efficiency: Compared to other building materials like steel or concrete, the manufacture and processing of lumber need less energy, making it a more energy-efficient choice. 4. Aesthetics: Wood providesIts warmth and inherent beauty make it a popular option for interior and architectural design. Its distinct hues and patterns of grain can improve a structure's visual attractiveness. 5. Strength and Durability: Contemporary timber products have excellent strength and durability, which makes them appropriate for a range of structural applications, including high-rise buildings. Examples of these products are cross-laminated timber (CLT), Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) and laminated veneer lumber (LVL). 6. Versatility: Timber has many uses, including flooring, furniture, and ornamental accents in addition to frame. It can be readily implemented and modified to meet various design specifications. 7. Thermal Insulation: Because wood has superior thermal insulation qualities, it can save heating and cooling expenses and increase building energy efficiency. 8. Construction Speed: Prefabricated timber structures may be swiftly constructed on site, saving money on labor and cutting down on construction time. 9. Acoustic Properties: Due to its inherent ability to absorb sound, wood can enhance a building's acoustic qualities by lowering noise levels. 10. Biophilic Design: By fostering a sense of connection with nature, using natural materials like timber in architectural design can improve occupant comfort and well-being. Timber is becoming more and more acknowledged as a sustainable and effective material for contemporary architecture and design because of these advantages. #timber #sustainability #sustainablebuilding #masstimber #CLT #GlueLaminatedTimber #Greenbuilding Image: Dalston Works, London

ARE OLDER PROPERTIES MORE DIFFICULT TO MAKE ENERGY EFFICIENT DUE TO THEIR CONSTRUCTION? 100 YEARS PLUS… As experts in energy efficiency in building design, we are often asked about the advantages of reducing energy demand and consumption. 🏛️ Are older properties harder to make energy efficient? Not necessarily! Enhancing the energy efficiency of century-old houses, even those with solid walls or timber frames, is entirely feasible. Solutions like insulation, upgraded windows, and doors, coupled with reduced air infiltration, can remarkably boost their performance. However, tread carefully with historic buildings – seek necessary permissions before any alterations. Older constructions often possess a breathable nature, allowing moisture to pass through and preventing dampness. Altering this balance may trap moisture, risking structural damage. Hence, it's crucial to assess the existing structure and opt for breathable insulation and finishes. Revamping windows and doors in heritage properties can significantly enhance their environmental footprint. For properties in conservation areas or listed buildings, sensitive options exist for replacements that blend modern performance with traditional aesthetics. If replacements aren't permitted, secondary glazing offers a viable solution without compromising historical integrity. Moreover, historic buildings are often prone to air leakage, resulting in significant heat loss during winter. Upgrading insulation and fittings can mitigate this, but it's essential to ensure controlled ventilation to prevent moisture buildup and maintain indoor air quality. Let's preserve our architectural heritage while embracing sustainability! 🌿 By prioritising sustainability, We, Keystone, aim to minimise negative environmental impacts, promote energy efficiency, and ensure that the materials, construction methods, and overall design contribute to the health and well-being of the occupants and the surrounding community. Remember, sustainability does not have to be expensive or complicated.
