Trench Safety Awareness: A Survivor's Story Alex Parker, a survivor of a trench collapse at just 17, shares his harrowing experience to raise awareness about trench safety. Sixteen years later, he recounts how a six-foot excavation caved in while he and a co-worker were repairing a water line, leading to severe injuries for both. Despite increased safety regulations, trench collapses remain a critical issue, with 22 deaths reported in the first half of this year alone. Alex emphasizes the need for ongoing education and vigilance in the industry. In a recent episode of *The Dirt*, Alex discusses the unpredictable nature of trench work, the lasting physical and mental impacts of his accident, and the importance of never entering a trench over four feet deep without proper safety equipment. His message is clear: prioritize safety and never underestimate the risks involved in trench work.
