This is great news. Having worked for the U.S. Forest Service (which falls under USDA and that agency's outstanding telework program) in-office and remotely, and for DoD as a service member overseas and as a mil-spouse in CONUS -- I know this isn't an easy lift. I know it also isn't answer to every military spouses' needs. But I applaud DoD for the many steps it has taken and continues to take towards recognizing that, like veterans, military spouses can be among their greatest organizational and cultural assets with right leadership and support. I work in one of the biggest office buildings in the world (the second largest actually). With remote work in the news almost everyday, I've been thinking a lot about my own work environment. There are things I really like about working in the Pentagon. And a few things I do not like. Things I enjoy about "The Building": - You can be a part of some amazing, historic things. - Diverse staff (no really). The Building is staffed by almost every imaginable demographic with a wide range of tremendous experience. - You can learn so much here about the inner workings of government and the military enterprise. - Convenient transit options! (I'm writing this on the Metro) - Network, network, network. Colonels love to receive "office calls". A few things I don't enjoy: - No windows. This has bummed me out more than I expected. - The overhead lighting is tough on the eyes. Also something I did not expect. - A unique culture that takes some getting used to. - Parking? What parking? - A huge reduction in the amount of influence I have compared to my last organization. Have you worked "In The Building"? What was your experience: love it, hate it, other?
