Problem Solved! ✅ The successful deployment of a technology collaboration between project lead J+S Subsea, as well as Viper and Verlume, has delivered a powerful solution for a Canadian operator facing issues with insulation resistance (IR) in umbilical cables. 🔧 Challenge: Maintaining IR infrastructure in subsea umbilical cables while the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit was off location for routine maintenance. 🤝 Solution: Three cutting-edge subsea control systems were developed to monitor and address IR issues in real-time. Using Viper Innovations’ V-LIFE technology via their V-SLIM (Subsea Line Integrity Monitor) hardware, combined with Verlume’s Charge rechargeable battery pack, a robust and sustainable system capable of 90 days of continuous power was designed. This system is easily rechargeable on a Construction Support Vessel (CSV) or onshore, ensuring uninterrupted maintenance. 🚀 Outcome: The collaborative effort has ensured sustained IR maintenance, providing the client with operational efficiency even while the FPSO is off location. Did you know that Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) devices, paired with emergency generators, play an important role in ensuring safety and uninterrupted operations on offshore drilling rigs ? When the #ATS detects a disruption in the primary power source, it automatically triggers the startup of the emergency generator, seamlessly transferring the electrical load to the backup power supply. #MODU Code, addresses electrical installations, emergency power supply, and required safety measures on offshore drilling rigs. This swift and automated process is essential for maintaining critical operations in offshore drilling rigs, where even a momentary power loss can have significant consequences. #OffshoreDrilling #SafetyFirst #ATSDevices #EmergencyGenerators #IMO #MODUCode #ATS

Tanker loading or unloading lines are unique #pipeline assets in the oil and gas industry that, by design, may not be inspected using conventional inspection methods. This case study involves a 30” pipeline that connects a shore-based installation to a subsea pipeline end manifold (PLEM) and presents several challenges, such as single access, no traps, or a single flow direction. Learn more about the benefits of a tailored free-swimming bi-directional approach for such #loadinglines in combination with pre-ILI cleaning here: https://lnkd.in/eiQXwHmk #empoweredbytechnology #pipelinecleaning #pipelineintegrity

#SCSSV stands for Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve. It's a critical component within a subsea production system, acting as a downhole safety shut-off mechanism. Here's a closer look at SCSSVs: * **Function:** Their primary function is to isolate the wellbore in case of emergencies or equipment failure at the surface. They essentially act as a fail-safe mechanism, automatically closing to prevent uncontrolled flow of oil and gas. * **Operation:** SCSSVs are positioned downhole within the tubing string, typically below the surface facility or mudline (in offshore scenarios). They are operated remotely from the surface through a thin steel control line running alongside the tubing. The control system is designed to be fail-safe. In normal operation, high-pressure control fluid is pumped through this line, keeping the valve open. If pressure is lost in the control line due to an issue at the surface, the SCSSV automatically closes, shutting off the flow from the wellbore. * **Types:** There are two main types of SCSSVs: * Wireline retrievable: In this design, the core components of the safety valve can be retrieved and replaced using a wireline intervention technique. * Tubing retrievable: This type involves installing the entire SCSSV assembly along with the tubing string. Retrieval requires a more complex and expensive rig workover operation. By incorporating SCSSVs, subsea production systems become safer and more reliable, offering an additional layer of protection against wellbore flow issues.

🤔 Why we need to consider pre-magnetize transformer in #FPSO# 🚢 📌 Reducing Inrush Currents: Transformers experience inrush currents when they are first energized due to the sudden change in magnetic flux. Pre-magnetization involves gradually increasing the voltage applied to the transformer, which helps reduce inrush currents. This can be particularly important in FPSO projects where sudden and high inrush currents could impact the stability of the electrical system. 📌 Minimizing Voltage Disturbances: Pre-magnetization helps to minimize voltage disturbances during the connection of the FPSO to the power grid. Gradual energization allows for better control of voltage levels, reducing the risk of voltage sags or other disturbances that could affect sensitive equipment. 📌 Protecting Equipment: The controlled pre-magnetization process helps protect electrical equipment from potential damage caused by sudden changes in voltage and current. It ensures a smoother transition to the operational state, contributing to the overall reliability of the FPSO's electrical system. 📌 Stability Considerations: FPSOs often operate in challenging offshore environments where grid stability can be a concern. Pre-magnetization allows for a more controlled and stable connection to the power grid, minimizing the impact on the overall stability of the electrical system. System Integration: In FPSO projects, integrating electrical systems with power grids onshore or other platforms requires careful coordination. Pre-magnetization is part of the commissioning process, ensuring that the electrical systems are seamlessly integrated into the broader power infrastructure. 📋 Note :It's worth noting that the specific requirements for pre-magnetization in FPSO projects may vary based on project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
