Die Sonnenblumenhäuser exemplifies a collaborative, plural approach to urban planning, contributing to the vibrant new Wildgarten district in Meidling, Vienna. Developed as part of a 10-hectare project following the Europan 10 competition, this initiative involved multiple architecture teams, social housing enterprises, and cooperatives, fostering a democratic design process. arenas basabe palacios led the design of 11 housing blocks, including 82 residential units, community spaces, and commercial facilities. The architecture embraces a garden-matrix concept, where each block surrounds its own green space, creating a seamless integration of urban living and nature. Buildings of varying heights—from single-family homes to collective housing blocks—support a dynamic and inclusive urban fabric. Ceramic façades optimize sun exposure, while flexible interior spaces offer adaptability for residents. The project balances historical preservation with innovative construction, ensuring sustainable living through green corridors and low-maintenance landscapes. The result is a diverse, cohesive neighborhood that enhances both community connections and environmental harmony. 🏢 Beaulieu: Harmony between Demolition and Conservation   Atenor and AG Real Estate in collaboration with the BMA are delighted to present a real estate initiative designed by a2o, VELD and Kollektif Landscape for their project Beaulieu. This challenging development for residential housing balances demolition and preservation. 💡 The southern bays of the building retain the original architectural elements, while the northern bays benefit from new openings and volumes. The atrium is transformed into an interior street. Vis-à-vis between dwellings is avoided thanks to an ingenious double orientation.   💡The residential typologies are diversified, with adaptable programming for flats, offices, and co-living spaces.   💡The building's post-modern architecture has been reinterpreted with brick accents, giving it an attractive residential character. A large bicycle storage area on the ground floor provides easy access to the future urban boulevard.   This development is highly praised for its coherent integration of constraints and its adaptive reuse approach. Each apartment is thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of students and young professionals, balancing practicality with comfort. Interiors are planned intentionally, offering ease and simplicity while delivering the functionality required for productive study and work. Natural light floods the rooms, creating a sense of openness, while neutral tones and clean lines provide a calming backdrop for our residents' busy lives.
