For those who think it’s far-fetched to imagine millions of women suddenly being prohibited from accessing their #birthcontrol pills, think again. The momentum is building to curtail Americans’ ability to plan their own families, and philanthropy has an essential role to play in equipping health care and reproductive rights advocates to fend off these antiquated attacks and debunk the misinformation some lawmakers are spreading. Americans for Contraception is a leader in the movement to protect access to birth control, and Arabella was honored to host a recent discussion with their team. In this blog, we discuss the considerations that Liz Jaff shared for the philanthropic community. Tip number one? Invest early. The time is now. Check it out here: https://ow.ly/mthS50SypKj

Position Announcement: President and Chief Executive Officer, Planned Parenthood Great Rivers The institution that is today’s Planned Parenthood began in the early 1900s with a movement to abolish laws prohibiting dissemination of information about sexuality, contraception and human reproduction, leading to the country’s first birth control clinic in 1916. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, overturning Roe v. Wade and eliminating federal protections for abortion. Minutes after the ruling was announced, Missouri became the first state to completely ban abortion, with many other states across the Midwest and South following suit. Tens of thousands of patients seeking abortion have been displaced, forcing them to search for the support and resources they needed to access high-quality sexual and reproductive health care. With the national election right around the corner, PPGR is postured to continue the fight. The President & CEO position is an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to employ all of his/her/their skills in management, leadership, partnership, fundraising, visionary thinking and advocacy for a strong organization composed of a talented and committed leadership team and volunteer Board. Your body is your business — and no one else's. And it’s your right to access the information you need to make decisions about your body and your future. But after the right to abortion was removed in the United States two years ago, we’ve seen a rise in attacks on our reproductive rights worldwide – including the right to access information on our health and rights online. As a global sexual and reproductive healthcare provider, we know that for many people, searching online is their only source of information on abortion and contraception. And there are many reasons why people want to keep this search history private. Whether to avoid anti-choice ‘crisis pregnancy centre’ websites that gather data on those searching for abortion, or partners monitoring phone use, or the cases of women who faced miscarriage and were then investigated for searching on their reproductive options. That's why we created the Vagina Privacy Network: a new kind of 'VPN' with a step-by-step protocol for those who want to stay anonymous online — so your private parts, stay private. 👉 Visit the Vagina Privacy Network website: https://lnkd.in/ecT_wgBR On the anniversary of Dobbs Vs. The recent developments in the realm of women's reproductive rights have brought to light the ongoing challenges faced by women in the United States. The relentless campaign against women's autonomy and access to essential healthcare services, particularly in the context of birth control and abortion, raises concerns about the erosion of civil rights and the need for collective action. It is imperative that women recognize the significance of their collective power and exercise their right to vote against those who seek to suppress their fundamental rights. The absence of influential figures comparable to Coretta Scott King, Dorothy Cotton, and Jo Ann Robinson in the contemporary landscape underscores the need for strong and vocal advocates to champion women's rights and ensure their voices are heard.

Our latest project, The Trial, for All* In Action Fund explores one of the most pressing health issues in the US: the harmful impact of abortion bans. Anti-abortion politicians and extremists are recklessly dragging us into the past and dismantling our reproductive rights. These restrictive laws have criminalized both women and healthcare providers, putting lives at risk and creating a hostile environment fueled by the fear of persecution and dangerous rhetoric. And this isn’t just the idea of a dystopian future—it’s happening right now. Since the overturning of Roe, we’ve seen prosecutions of women related to pregnancy loss. Tragically, we’ve seen women die after going to emergency rooms, as doctors in states with abortion bans hesitate to provide care for fear of legal repercussions. They’re forced to wait until patients are critically ill, hoping to save their lives before it’s too late. Our reproductive rights are on the ballot this year. Choose leaders who move us forward, not backward. Please watch and share at thetrial.co Andrea B. The battle for Health and Reproductive Rights takes form and content based on the prevailing challenges of the day. Even within a given era, the persistence of social stratification makes the battles fought by one group can be markedly different (even counter to) the battles of another group. For example, when the House of Lords (HL) famously decided that the word "persons" as used in section 24 of the British North America Act, did in fact include women, it might have included all women...but it didn't. Many women were excluded based on their ancestry (of course) but others were excluded based on their medical histories. Emily Murphy, one of the Famous Five who took the "Persons' Case" to the HL, was both rabidly anti-immigration, and pro-eugenics (forced sterilization of certain classes of disabled women). The Health and Reproductive Rights battle at the time of the Persons Case was to stop the routine sterilization of persons with disabilities, which in some minds included all manner of oppressed people (i.e. Indigenous Women). Today, in some parts of the world, the battle is for access to birth control and abortion. In other parts of the world the battle is for food, shelter, and clean drinking water. The International Centre for Research on Women works in the field to identify (and remove) the barriers to Health and Reproductive Rights of women. Have a look: https://lnkd.in/ew_zhrz4

Founder/Executive Director at WomenStrong International Lifting up women’s voices and solutions to advance global development.
A week ago today, on what would have been the 51st anniversary of the groundbreaking Roe v. Wade ruling that enshrined reproductive rights in law, the Biden-Harris administration announced new measures to protect access to emergency contraception and abortion, as provided for under current law. Everyone insured privately, through state Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Programs, the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, or Medicare is being sent guidance regarding their and their family members' access to affordable contraception and emergency medical care, as required under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). So many Americans have grown up with the luxury of taking our reproductive rights for granted; no longer: as long as others seem squarely focused on stripping away so many of our rights -- including the rights to autonomy over your own body, to love whom you love, to read what you want to read, and to vote your conscience, to name just a few of those rights currently under attack -- we cannot rest. Thank you The White House Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access and Gender Policy Council, for taking active steps to protect Americans' rights and for continuing to shine a light on these issues. #reproductiverights #reproductivejustice #mybodymyself #womensrights #humanrights https://lnkd.in/eEc7D4W2

India's Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act has evolved since its inception in 1971, with recent amendments expanding access to safe abortions. But how far does it really go in protecting women's reproductive rights? In our latest article, we critically examine the MTP Act and uncover the limitations that still persist—patriarchal bias, ableism, and the failure to fully recognise a woman's autonomy over her own body. Is the MTP Act truly a progressive step, or does it maintain control over women's reproductive choices? Explore our in-depth analysis and join the conversation about the future of reproductive rights in India.
