The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has introduced new mountaineering and trekking permit fees, including a sharp increase for K2 climbs. Foreign climbers will now pay $5,000 in summer, $2,500 in autumn, and $1,500 in winter, while Pakistani climbers will pay Rs100,000, Rs50,000, and Rs30,000, respectively. Trekking fees for foreigners have also risen. Groups are limited to 20 members, and porters must be insured. Collective permits have been replaced with individual fees, nearly doubling costs for climbers by 2025.
