Self-care and prevention According to World Health Organization. Most people with mpox will recover within 2–4 weeks. Things to do to help the symptoms and prevent infecting others: Do Stay home and in your own room if possible. Wash hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer, especially before or after touching sores. Wear a mask and cover lesions when around other people until your rash heals. Keep skin dry and uncovered (unless in a room with someone else). Avoid touching items in shared spaces and disinfect shared spaces frequently. Use saltwater rinses for sores in the mouth. Take sitz baths or warm baths with baking soda or Epsom salts for body sores. Take over-the-counter medications for pain like paracetamol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. Do not: Pop blisters or scratch sores, which can slow healing, spread the rash to other parts of the body, and cause sores to become infected; or shave areas with sores until scabs have healed and you have new skin underneath (this can spread the rash to other parts of the body). #PublicHealth #Mpox #EmergencyResponse #HealthforAll #OneHealth

In big news, The Fred Hollows Foundation is excited to share that Pakistan has officially eliminated trachoma as a public health problem, a milestone validated by the World Health Organization. This success is a powerful reminder that big change happens when we work together. Trachoma, the world’s leading infectious cause of blindness, has disproportionately impacted people in vulnerable positions, particularly women and children. Its elimination is not just about improving health – it’s about creating economic and educational opportunities that can uplift entire generations. This achievement is a direct result of global and local partnerships, from government agencies to NGOs, all working in sync to tackle a complex problem at a systemic level. As The Fred Hollows Foundation's Pakistan Country Manager, Farooq Awan, highlighted: “Pakistan’s journey to eliminate trachoma shows that by working in partnership, we can deliver lasting impact on people’s quality of life and wellbeing.” The collaboration between the Government of Pakistan, international partners, and local communities is a prime example of how collective effort and commitment can transform lives and improve global health outcomes. This is what happens when we come together to drive real, sustainable change. #TrachomaElimination #EyeHealth #PublicHealth #Pakistan #GlobalHealth #SystemicChange #FredHollowsFoundation #PartnershipsMatter

India is ramping up its defenses against the global spread of Mpox. Airports, ports, and borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan are now on high alert with officials intensifying surveillance of incoming international passengers. In Delhi, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, and Lady Hardinge Medical College have been designated primary centers for isolating and treating Mpox cases. State governments have also been instructed to set up similar nodal centers to ensure swift and effective management. A high-level meeting chaired by P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance, prompt detection, and public awareness. While the risk of a large outbreak in India remains low, vigilance and preparedness are crucial. Airport Authority of India MyGov India #Mpox #MonkeyPox #MpoxAlert #MinistryofHealth #WHO
